The Hillside Resort - A Tropical Oasis at the Heart of Siargao Island

Simple words wouldn't suffice to describe this beautiful resort I visited on Siargao Island. I am left speechless as I try to reminisce about that experience or memories about this place although I shall try my best to convey or paint a vivid description for you with these photographs I was fortunate enough to capture.

It was just 2 hours past noon when we arrived at the entrance of The Hillside Resort. Unless you have brought or rented your own motorbike or private vehicle, the only means to get there is riding a tricycle. Fare is cheap though at Php 30 or less than a dollar.

Do not be deceived by how simple the entrance looks for the magic lies when you enter its premises.

As we step into the reception area, we were greeted by a welcoming environment and staff. The interior design and decor created an inviting atmosphere and elegant ambiance. The ceiling is adorned with wooden lighting features and the open doors and windows provide an airy and spacious feel.

The wooden furniture exudes comfort and added elegance to the overall look. The were a few paintings but the Buddha art piece was a center of attention that added this exotic vibe to the space.

As the purpose of our visit was to attend the Afro-Latin social dancing organized by @chrisysindibachata, we only asked for the accommodating staff the direction of the venue it was held. She simply said to follow the path before us.

Even before setting afoot on this said path, I was already mesmerized by the sight before us. The lush garden, bathed in the warm glow of the sun, was a breathtaking display of nature's beauty.

We couldn't help but be in awe of this beautiful landscaping. The tropical foliage, such as banana trees and other varieties of plants, created an idyllic backdrop and yet feels like it was carefully designed to provide shade and a sense of privacy for the elegant bungalows lined up on both sides.

It was a short stroll but an enchanting immersion in nature that filled me with tranquility and excitement as to what lies ahead of us.

The path led to a short flight of stairs filled yet with other species of garden plants. At the corner was a small pond filled with water lettuce. It would have been more captivating if it was filled with koi fish, right?

Reaching the top of the stairs, we were greeted by a breathtaking "oasis" - the closest metaphor I could think of to capsulate the picturesque scenery that welcomed us.

The combination of the inviting pool, the open space, and the welcoming atmosphere of people enjoying themselves created a captivating ambiance that filled with me two things - anticipation and regret! Anticipation of the dancing and connection I will experience and regret not bringing a bikini with me!

Despite the summer heat, the Hillside Resort provided a haven of relaxation and enjoyment. The two-story building houses the restaurant on the ground floor and several rooms with balconies overlooking the poolside area on the second floor.

We arrived at a scene of conversations flowing effortlessly, laughter filling the air, and dancing to the upbeat music played. Some people preferred lounging at the poolside area, indulging in their own friendly banters. Of course, we didn't miss out on dancing a few songs with some gentlemen present.

My wonderment of the place led me to explore other areas of the resort and brought me to a secluded jacuzzi tucked away behind the restaurant. The area was thoughtfully designed to provide privacy, allowing guests to unwind and relax in this serene oasis. Though not being used at that time, it would still be a rejuvenating experience with yourself or your friends.

Across from the pool is a spacious open area filled with comfortable tables and chairs, offering different spots for relaxation and socializing. The atmosphere was laid-back and inviting, with guests enjoying their drinks and engaging in conversation under the shade of the tree.

The tiled pathway leads to a wooden deck that overlooked a wide grassland. As I approached, I noticed the construction of what appeared to be a pond or a pool in progress. Despite the ongoing work, two ladies had found a sunny spot on the deck and were leisurely soaking up the rays.

This spot would probably be the best place to watch the sunset!

I'm not sure whether luck was on my side but I was fortunate to have the opportunity to explore the bungalows of The Hillside Resort before leaving the place.

The first one is a two-story retreat great for a group of friends or family. The ground floor is designed with the living area facing the porch surrounded by luscious plants. The wooden interior and furnishings exude this elegant taste.

Climbing the stairs to the second floor, we were met with a delightful surprise. Two queen size beds in a small yet still spacious room.

The highlight was undoubtedly the balcony, offering a refreshing view of the beautiful luscious pathway we encountered earlier. A perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening drink while soaking in the tranquility of the resort.

The second one is an ideal choice if you are a solo traveler or a couple seeking a romantic getaway. Elegantly designed with an open porch, wooden floorboards, and a comfortable king-size bed, one would feel a sense of coziness and intimacy upon entering this charming bungalow.

Our short but sweet visit to this place was amazing and memorable. From the luscious and vibrant pathway to the stunning poolside view, the elegant bungalows, the dancing and socialization, we were fully immersed in this resort's unique beauty and charm. Perhaps, on my next visit, I will be spending a night here with my significant other.
