Let's go to Bejucal, city of rumba - Vamos a Bejucal, ciudad de rumba (Eng-Esp)

Bejucal, belonging to what we call Habana Campo. This area is characterized by the reddish color of its soils. But when it is said Bejucal we immediately think of its folklore.Friends of @worldmapping, I fulfilled an old desire to know one of the cities in the south of western Cuba,

Art is prolific in this area, I enjoyed the Bejucal Drums, bearers of a rumba tradition with African roots, rooted in this area of the country, declared National Heritage.

I took a tour of the city, there at the Bejucal Museum, I let myself be carried away by the grace of the verb and rich history that Roberto Chaviano Cabrera, Conservation Specialist, treasures.

His slow voice and enviable memory pointed out each date and name to me. "For me every brick, every tile, every corner has a story." Chaviano is a pure Bejucaleño That, his passion for the history of those parts, which included his family, caught my interest all morning. Bejucal boasted development in the production of tobacco, later sugar and after ending the sugar decline in the area, tobacco work once again gained strength but in manufacturing from the chinchales, medium-sized industries. premises until the establishment in the city of large and prestigious firms such as Henry Clay and Bock & Co., H. Hupmann or Partagás and others.

"Bejucal, welcoming city" is how they say on the covers of old publications of that distinguished and noble town, exhibited in the Museum. Named San Juan del Bejucal, an estate belonging to the Spanish Captain Juan Nuñez del Castillo, since 1713. May 9, 1714, is the date designated as the foundation for the first meeting of the Cabildo. Only six among Villas and Cities emerged from this stately form of foundation.

The structure of the city and its old buildings transport me to the 18th century. Original grid of 35 founding blocks, divided into two quadrants by a well-designed symbolic axis of the powers: Ecclesiastical, Stately and Political Therefore, as the original creation of an urban-architectural layout typical of the Neoclassical cities.

The colonial constructions of the Ss. 18th and 19th centuries of what the Historic Center now occupies... evolved in their styles, complementing themselves later with the eclecticism of modernity in the republican period. The church was founded in April 1722, built with ashlar walls and covered with wooden coffered ceiling and tiles. On my way I found the house, already (unfortunately) dilapidated, where Félix Pita Rodríguez was born, on 9th street, corner of 16th. There you can see a plaque as the only connotation of the place. But there the lyrics grow like a romerillo and beat in the voices of its singers, that's how I saw the researcher, poet and repentista Juan Carlos García Guridi.
Bejucal is a beautiful city, a city that invites you to return for its people, for its architectural beauty, for its art and for the party.

Amazing places, they remind me a bit of some Sardinian places. We have Spanish heritage in common :)
