Hi, Worldmappin community! Here's another day of a solo trip to Japan. This time around it was already December 2015. Here is my third entry of the #winterchallenge.
I moved to another hostel in Asakusa and it was near to Senso-ji temple. I just need to walk a few minutes so easy peasy. Something I missed on my first visit so I was glad to be in this area.
I was talking to Japanese-Filipino friends from a traveling group on Facebook so we decided to meet in person.
Mariko met me in my hostel as she parked her car somewhere. I realized that it was difficult to park your car in Tokyo and expensive. She lives in Niigata so she had to come to Tokyo for the meet-up.
Nakamise-dori - the merchant street
Senso-ji temple is known and popular among tourists as it is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo.
We have to pass by the merchant street called Nakamise-dori. The street was very busy, with people passing by to look at or buy souvenirs.
We were so tempted to look around and stand by at the shops but our goal was to visit the temple. Don't start your day buying souvenirs, not a good idea.
Giant Red Lanterns at Kaminarimon Gate
We reached the entry of Senso-ji Temple which is famous for the giant red lanterns displayed outside of the temple. For tourists like us, it is a must to have your photos taken here.
Searching for my Fortune or Omikuji
It was difficult to take photos around as there were so many people but no regrets, it's a holiday so let me just enjoy it. It's good to have a Japanese companion as she knows what we can do inside the temple.
We bought the incense and paid respect for Buddha. I am not Buddhist but I made a wish and prayed for my future. People made a queue to have their turn for their prayers.
Mariko introduced me Omikuji. I remember I paid 100 YEN and I need to find my good fortune in a box. I got Number 89, I got THE BEST FORTUNE.
No. 89 THE BEST FORTUNE
Your gem has no flaw and it will glisten better when you polish.
Good character by nature becomes much better when you polish yourself.
You will become known better.
You become wealthy and you may have a repeated stroke of good luck.
Your hope will be come true. The patient will be sure to recover. The lost thing is late to be found. Building a new house and removal are both good. It is god for your making a trip. Both marriage and employment are good.
I've been holding and believing this BEST FORTUNE I received at Senso-ji Temple since 2015. I am just waiting to BECOME WEALTHY. Hahaha!
That was the first time I tried Omikuji so you should try it and find your luck in different temples.

We stayed here for a while as we were waiting for another Japanese-Filipino to arrive in Tokyo. We were just waiting for her call. Mariko and I just enjoyed taking photos around.

A Glimpse of Cherry Blossom, I was excited to see little flowers.
We got a message that our friend had arrived in Shinjuku so we had to take the subway. Another photo of this red lantern at the end of the temple.

9 days in Tokyo and spent less than $500 with all the accommodation, flight, and meals.

Pag naka visit ka any temples, try mo yong fortune box nila. haha.
Yes, I visited one in Nara and got the "ice fortune" since it was Summer. 😁 I also got a lucky charm, hehe.

That's nice to have a lucky charm. My souvenir from the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto got broken after a few years. Ah yes, may nabili akong lucky charms pala sa Nara and nasa bahay lang namin sa Cebu naka display.
