We know Umhlanga as a popular holiday destination and a business hub. Wikipedia describes Umhlanga as "a residential, commercial and resort town north of Durban on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which was created in 2000 and includes the greater Durban area".
Beaches.
Let's start with the beaches.
As mentioned, Umhlanga is a popular tourist/holiday destination and the beaches are one of the main attractions of this area. And no, you don't have a spec on your screen... Someone was flying a kite from the beach...lol.
Even in cloudy weather, people love to spend their time on the beach in Umhlanga.
Just north of the main beach in Umhlanga there are quiet areas where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll on the beach away from the crowds.
Umhanga Beach also has a popular launching area for boats to enter the ocean.
This boat has just returned from an early morning outing on the open waters of the ocean.
Whalebone Pier: A Popular Tourist Attraction and Landmark.
The Whalebone Pier, also known as the Umhlanga Pier among the locals, is an impressive tourist attraction and landmark in Uhlanga.
According to this post on thesaunter.co.za, ..."This 80 meter long pier was declared as #1 on CNN’s list of the 9 most beautiful piers in the world in 2014, after this network also proclaimed Durban as one of the world’s most underrated cities!"
The next photo was taken while standing on the pier, looking back at Umhlanga.
Another interesting fact is that the Whalebone Pier is actually the stormwater outlet for the area.
Umhlanga Light House
Another well-known and popular landmark in Umhlanga, is the Umhlanga Light House.
Standing on the Whalebone Pier, you can enjoy nice views of the Umhlanga Light house.
The skyline of the city of Durban is clearly visible in the background, with the Moses Mabhida Soccer Stadium visible behind the light house.
Looking at the light house with the Whalebone Pier in the foreground.
O'Conner Promenade and the Forest Boardwalk.
Would you like to go jogging? Or would you prefer walking for your fitness workout of the day? Or maybe you just want to go for a relaxing stroll along the beach...?
Well, the O'Conner Promenade is the place to be.
Along the way you can find refreshments to quench the thirst...
Or maybe you'd like to sit down for a meal...?
Or a donut or two...
Some nice scenes along the promenade as you move further up north.
The O'Conner Promenade eventually takes you to the Forest Boardwalk...
It takes you almost 1km through the forest until you get to the Forest Cafe which is part of the Bike & Bean Group.
We love going out there for an early morning coffee...
...watching the sun rising over the ocean in the background.
Conclusion.
As you can see, there is plenty to see and do in Umhlanga. And in this post, I only mentioned a few things.
I hope you ejoyed my post.

Umhlanga has been able to maintain a clean space on the North Coast, attracts hoards of people due maintaining this at a higher rate than many other towns along this incredible coastline.
Tidy Towns doing superb work as residents have decided to take back towns with cleaning, hopefully municipality will follow.
Nice overall pictures of this resort town so close to Durban!

My brother goes there for walks along Umhlanga regularly always telling me how well it's maintained, money from local businesses does assist, a way to attract more.
One place that has grown in leaps and bounds, well deserved appreciation by locals who visit.
It is well-maintained indeed! We love going out there for regular walks too!
The local business community is very involved in various projects in the area.
Small business, residents are either donating toward, or physically going out together to organize through different groups. Hopefully in time municipality will solve water issues, sewerage and street lights. Crime is rife, thank goodness for private security whom many pay/volunteer for.
If private companies, individuals, and security companies don't get involved, it seems like nothing is happening anywhere...
Totally agree, everyone is adopting the same attitude, roll up the sleeves and get it done, many in retirement sharing know-how.
Wow this is lovely. I'd say a good reference esp. for those who can and love to travel and explore new places around the globe. I miss the beach. I'm thinking that the first vacation I'd have next time around would be to a beach area. LOL. Happy weekend! Thank you for always sharing your lovely photos and stories.
