What’s up, my fellow Hivers! This is me, your @janineylicious As a newbie here on this platform, I was really amazed while reading a few blogs that caught my eye. It even makes me want to explore more since I am still at the stage of learning new things here.
So today, I am going to share my museum visit experience at Fort San Pedro just within Cebu. As for the information I got, this known place - Fort San Pedro is the oldest fort in the Philippines and was built by the Spaniards under Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. It is said that this fort was initially built of wood, but that stones were later added to block Muslim invaders. Well, honestly speaking, this is my first time visiting a museum ever since; maybe museum appreciation is not for everyone, but for my personal experience, this is a unique way to appreciate things from the past.
The fort undergone several changes throughout the years, one of which was the substitution of stone and mortar for wood. A picture of Portuguese adventurer Ferdinand Magellan, who headed the Spanish expedition that finally made it to the Philippines in year 1521, was also there. Just a little detailed information, On May 8, 1565, just 11 days after Legazpi's arrival in Cebu, it was constructed in its first form by using logs. Well, the history of the fort is lengthy and complex. We even focused our eyes to the pictures that were displayed on the walls of the barrel vault entryway at the site's entrance. These pictures showed the fort's slow evolution.
On 27th of January , I went there with my friends just for a random stroll in the city. The museum wasn’t really part of our original plans, but as we were walking around the city, we saw the building and decided to go inside. At first, we are hesitant to push through because we thought we still needed to pay some entrance fees or something, so what we did was ask the guard, and yes, they have an entrance fee of 30.00, but fortunately the guard said there is no need to pay anything for the meantime because it is their lunch break. And yeah! We are happy to proceed inside and to see what’s in there.
So why visit a MUSEUM?
In essence, it is enriching our experience through a lot of reasons, like getting curious about different things in the past, such as how they survived or how they built certain architecture. It also somehow brings us the feeling to get inspired, stay informed, learn something new, and relax at the same time. It seems like this kind of experience is very fascinating for me since it makes me wonder how amazing the people from the past were. I appreciate their works as they contribute to what the city is right now. As of this moment while writing this blog, I now truly understand the importance of history to us; history really contributes a big impact to our present and future.
Basically, those things can make us improve and not repeat unfortunate history. But aside from those things, I can appreciate the art collections because it is like a visual feast in my eyes. I never thought that museums could be my kind of peace for the reason that it brings me therapy, the unusual kind. I would also like to know your museum experience if you happen to visit once.

How to get there?
Address: A. Pigafetta Street, Cebu City — 20-30 minutes away from SM City Cebu, 1 hour away from Mactan Airport.
BY JEEPNEY: Ride any jeepney going to Plaza Independencia, or MyBus from SM City Cebu (going to Talisay). Drop off at the nearest point from the SRP’s opening road. Walk heading to Plaza Independencia, just adjacent to Malacanang sa Sugbo sa Sugbo.
BY CAR/GRAB/TAXI: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and search for “Fort San Pedro”. Parking space is available.
Entrance fee: ₱30 per head (20% discount for Students / Senior Citizens / PWDs)
Operating Hours: 8AM to 7PM daily
I want to encourage everyone who hasn't been to Fort San Pedro yet (this isn't sponsored), especially students, as not many people in this generation will take the time to do so because it wasn't a trend and not everyone is interested. Its always nice to see an older building being refurbished into a museum. Your right museums certainly give us a look at the past. Also more times than not we walk away with something learned. This museum looks very interesting and cool. Being that it was your first museum visit hopefully the experience leads to seeing and sharing more of them:)

Fort San Pedro is worth to visit, Its been couple of years the last time I visit that place. Hopefully I can visit again for sure so many changes and improvements.
