A few days ago I went to Tara with my family. It is the most beautiful mountain in Serbia that we like to visit several times a year. On the way to Tara, we pass through Valjevo town, located in western Serbia. This time we didn't go around the city because it was very cold, but I was interested in a narrow street that led to the hill and we headed that way to see what was up there.
And I was so surprised when I saw a huge monument that intrigued me and I got out of the car to look at it better.
As I approached, it appeared larger and larger.
It was a man with open arms. I wondered what he was saying.
It felt like a powerful message.
I found out that the entire park named Vidrak is dedicated to the fighters of the 1941-1945 revolution and that there are monuments dedicated to them, among which the central place is occupied by the monument dedicated to the national hero Stevan Filipovic.
He was an illegal prisoner, sentenced to death by hanging, and what particularly intrigued me was the moment that inspired the creator of the monument.
In the last moments before his death, the residents of Valjevo town witnessed his inspiring revolutionary speech with open raised arms.
That moment was recorded forever with the construction of this monument.
I felt strange while looking at his face, it evokes a mix of emotions. I have never seen such a large monument in the form of a man. And the view from there is incredible. When the weather is sunny and clear, you can definitely see the whole town.
Then we continued our journey towards Tara mountain and at the very exit from Valjevo town we stopped at a restaurant Platani (Plane trees) because my children were hungry.
They serve traditional food and the famous Valjevo beer, which is produced in the brewery right next door, so it is recommended for all beer lovers to take a break here.
After lunch, we headed to a monastery, which I will write about in the next post.
Thank you for reading.

Being sentence to death by hanging was 🥹, and the same time terrifying
Yes, it is very sad and terrible to live something like that. That is why this monument left such a strong impression on me.
You have managed to capture the beauty of this place very well.
Thanks, I tried but the weather was very bad and cloudy.
