A visit to the Military museum in Belgrade

in Worldmappin2 years ago

I don't like weapons. When I see a weapon I don't feel comfortable and I wonder if people must have developed a need to start making them in the past. Was it so difficult to live in peace? It seems that it was, because even today, after many years of human development and progress, the destructive side of human nature still exists and weapons are unfortunately still used.

While I was walking in Belgrade's Kalemegdan park, which I wrote about in previous posts, I came across an open permanent display of the Military museum.

The Military Museum in Belgrade is another symbol of the Belgrade fortress and is located within it.

The building in which the museum is located today was built at the beginning of the 20th century by a Russian architect who combined elements of Russian and medieval architecture, so it fits perfectly into the ambience of the Belgrade Fortress. It was used as a military geography institute and was later turned into a museum where various items from Serbian military history are kept.

I have never entered that building because I do not feel comfortable facing the tragic history of human suffering during military operations. But I have seen the outdoor setting of museum many times and today I will share the photos with you.

In this place, in the vicinity of the museum, many heavy artillery weapons that were used in the turbulent wartime past of my country are exhibited. There are various types of cannons, mostly Italian and Polish.

There are also some fairly old examples of cannons. Seeing the environment from their perspective is a bit frightening. 😊

IMG_20230211_154120.jpg

IMG_20230211_154147.jpg

Some of them are huge like the "long, heavy cannon" in the photo below.

IMG_20230211_153955.jpg

And there are also anti-tank cannons.

IMG_20230211_154319.jpg

In addition to cannons, there are also tanks. Lots of tanks of different models with strong destructive power.

IMG_20230211_154025.jpg

There are American tanks.

IMG_20230219_085509.jpg

German tanks, with exceptional destructive power.

IMG_20230211_153859.jpg

As well as Italian tanks.

IMG_20230211_153424.jpg

I noticed that each of them was made in a different style, as is the case with cars today. When you see the car style of the country in which it was made, it is always recognizable. 😊

It's always fun for the kids when they come here because they love to climb on the tanks even though it's forbidden. I don't allow my son to climb, but many parents do.

At this place, you can also see the anti-aircraft missile system.

IMG_20230211_153202.jpg

Rocket launchers.

The prow of a warship called "Serbia".

Ship's torpedo.

IMG_20230211_153604.jpg

And other naval weapons.

I was particularly intrigued by the German underwater mine.

If weapons once seemed so devastating, I can't even imagine what we have at our disposal today. That is a frightening fact. I would love if this exhibition were just a part of the past and if the world were a place of peace today. Wars have never brought anything good and every war is already lost at the beginning, but it seems that some generations after us will be able to learn that, because unfortunately we are still part of the war past. I hope that will change.

Thank you very much for reading.

The images and writing are original and mine.

Greetings!

Jelena

That's a lot of outside exhibits. You captured them all well. :)

Yes, there are a lot of them out there and I wanted to show as many as possible 😊

How many things do not know each other in the world where we live I didn't even know the existence of this place instead we should know it to understand the atrocity of the war

I'm also fascinated by the fact that there are so many amazing places that we don't even know about. 😊 That's one of the reasons I love Hive. The world exploration😊

Yeah I don't feel comfortable with weapons either. But this particular place involves a huge part of the history and culture of Serbia so that's why we decided to get in the place. The collection is extremely fascinating and i liked the way they sort the items. It's like a time travel.

Yes, I know that you recently visited Kalemegdan and that was a great choice, because there you really feel like you are traveling through time. You are welcome again to explore other interesting places in Serbia as well 🤗

As usual ,very nice blogs of you friend😍
But I felt a little scared of that war equipment😁

I understand you, because I also feel scared when I see war equipment 😊 Thank you my friend 🤗

Very nice place, I really like visiting places like this because I can see models of war equipment in museums like this.

Yes, this place offers a lot of authentic war equipment, interesting to see.

Yes . That's good enough for us to see.

Believe me! To me, first few photos looked like some game graphics (may be because, I played such games in past)

Haha thank you, I'm glad I achieved such an effect with photography 😊

I don't like war, but I like seeing those weapons since my family is a family of soldiers and police officers hehe

I know that 😊 it's the same with me. My dad was an army officer so I find it interesting.😊

Great photography! I felt like I was actually there! The weapons are so fascinating. I know how you feel in your intro; I guess it starts off as a need for defense but then gets used offensively then both sides evolve together in terms of complexity and effectiveness trying to both defend against and match certain levels of fire power on the battlefield.

Well said. I'm glad that you had the impression that you were there while reading. Thank you!
