Today I will continue my historical tour that I started yesterday. After a walk along the vineyards behind the mausoleum church of St. George in Topola, a small town in central Serbia, my son and I headed to the house of King Peter I Karadjordjevic, the grandson of the famous military leader Karadjordje, the founder of the Karadjordjevic royal dynasty.
The house is located opposite the church and was built at the beginning of the 20th century.
My son gets very excited when we visit old houses, and so do I. We are always curious especially when it comes to the houses of kings and other important historical figures.
King Peter I lived in this house while he was monitoring the construction of the church.
We entered through a small gate and headed towards the courtyard.
There was a place like a summer house where the king liked to spend his time.
When we got inside we felt like royalty. Just the thought that a king used to stay there is enough to make you feel somehow classy. 😊
Today, the house is a museum gallery with exhibited paintings of members of the royal family. I am especially impressed by how the ladies looked modern and elegant at the same time.
Some personal items of the king with great value are displayed in the house, such as a golden and silver saber.
His military medals and original manuscripts.
He was an educated king. We read that in addition to political and military education, he was also an artistic soul, he loved painting. And he loved photography as well.
The Last Supper is one of the most valuable works of art inside. It is an icon made in mother-of-pearl.
When we left the house, we continued our walk through the oak forest.
And, as if in a fairy tale, we came across another interesting house. Unfortunately it was closed so we just looked at it from the outside.
In that house lived a winegrower who took care of the royal vineyards. It was a pleasure to find ourselves in such a beautiful historical place.
We left the forest through the royal gate and headed towards another historical place, which is the town of Karadjordje, which I will write about in my next post.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena
Usually those royal house become museums where people can see how they lived in the past, interesting... Have nice day dear!
Yes, there are many museums of former royal houses and castles. And they always chose nice places to build houses. Have a great day too my friend!🤗
Buenos días como estás? Primera ves que veo una casa de un rey tan pequeña y sencilla, eso para mí demuestra mucho de la personalidad del rey, lo asocio con humildad y sencillez.
You're right, that's what they say about him. But this is only one of his houses. 😊

Thanks for a short tour, I somehow feel like a royalty too reading it. That king must be well-loved by his people. That summer house must be the place for the king to meditate or to pass time by. I always fall in love looking at the pictures in Europe and the ancient castles and everything..so perfect. 😍
I'm glad you have such impressions. There are many old castles and rich cultural heritage in my country. You can always explore something new.
I hope one day I can visit there so I can totally see it between my eyes. I will hire you my tour guide Jelena.
