The cathedral and the church that I wrote about in the previous post are located in a place known as Dom Ter, i.e. Dom Square in Szeged. This square is one of the biggest I have been to.
It is a large space where cultural manifestations, theater performances, festivals and concerts are held... I can only imagine how beautiful it is when everyone gathers here under the open sky.
There is a well-known outdoor event that takes place here. It's called the Open Air Festival and it's a spectacular cultural event.
This is also one of the largest squares in Hungary. One object in particular caught my attention, and that was the tower in front of the church.
I read there that it is the oldest monument of Szeged and that it is called Dimitri's Tower. It was named after Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki, who lived in 4th century. This tower is very old and its foundations date back to the 11th century.
It was interesting to me that there are university buildings on one side of this square and religious buildings on the other.
We walked a bit and looked at the sculptures of prominent Hungarian figures of science, history and art.
After sightseeing, we sat down in a nice self-service cafe where I drank a very delicious hot chocolate.
And the view from there on the beautiful historical spot of Szeged contributed to my overall amazing experience.
Thank you for reading.
