Grožnjan, often called the "town of artists," is not only a place of creativity but also a treasure trove of history. This picturesque hilltop Istrian town offers a journey through time with its well-preserved landmarks. We were very curious to peek into every corner, especially my children who imagined that princesses, princes and dwarfs lived in all those old buildings. 😊
We were so excited when we came across the cozy Corner House, which dates back to the 16th century.
This house is one of Grožnjan's most iconic architectural gems. Its unique position at the edge of a narrow street and its ornate details reflect the town's Venetian influence.
Then we came across Fonticus with loggia that dates back to the 14th century and used to house a court with a prison and grain warehouse on the first floor where all the city weights and measures were kept. It is located in the central square and today, it serves as an exhibition space, blending the town's past with its artistic present.
When we passed through the Town gate, we felt as if we had returned to the time of the knights. It used to be a protective entrance to the town and today showcases the town's medieval fortifications, inviting you to imagine Grožnjan as it was in the old medieval days.
The most interesting for us was the Spinotti Morteani Palace, a stunning example of Grožnjan's Venetian past. This palace, which dates back to the 17th century, was the residence of the town notaries and landowners.
My daughter was convinced that a princess lived there, so she curiously looked for the store where she buys dresses.
It was an interesting walk and a return to history that we enjoyed.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.

A great & very cool place to visit and I like the artifacts and the buildings that serve as reminders of the past.
