It has been a month since my last post here in Hive, and about 2 months from that most traumatic day with "Odette" ruining almost everything here in Cebu and some other parts of the country. It was also over a month that we've lost the power, and that water and signal were scarce - one of the big reasons why I have been so sluggish with my hive blogging and other online stuff.
Anyways, moving forward, things are now getting better, everything necessities are slowly restored. And just the previous week, the power was back in our place. Finally, brighter evenings literally, were back too, plus no more overpaying for the charging of the gadgets from acquaintances large solar panels, plus thirst-quenching iced and cold drinks are almost everywhere again. Thank God, things are recovering!
With all that, all that had happened, and the struggles from the past days, I just would like now to somehow redirect my attention and energy to something I missed doing, traveling. However, these days, this is kinda hard, this has somehow become not a priority, like a must-do, like how I've treated it before. There are just more important things that needed to be acted upon first. So, for now, I am just tripping down memory lane, replaying in mind the experiences and good moments on some of my travels before while scrolling through the old travel album I safe keep on my phone storage. I guess sharing one of these would work, fairly at least.
This was one bright day. Everyone around was super excited. After a long week of juggling the tall pile of workloads, and multitasking, thankfully, I got a whole day of fun and relaxation with my friends and workmates, just before starting another work week. We had a kind of team bonding at Sumilon Bluewater Resort. Well, this was planned more or less two weeks before the exact day. And I was glad that this was pulled off, as in our case, most of the time, week-planned travels won’t happen.
Our day started as early as 4:00 in the morning, our agreed time for pickup. We rented a van to transport us from our pickup point in Lapu-Lapu City to Sumilon, and back. A few minutes after 4:00 we started drifting off to the resort. It was roughly 4 hours of road travel, we arrived at Sumilon Bluewater Resort a few minutes past 8:00 in the morning.
From the reception area, we were held for about an hour, and oriented with all the important matters one should observe in the place while waiting for the boat to transfer us from the mainland to the island resort. So, from the resort’s reception, it took us another 20 minutes of boat ride to their isolated island.
The island has so much to offer. It is rich - with its tempting azure sea with shore floored with white pebbles, its lush greeneries that add to its charm and vibrance, and its therapeutic ambiance that sheds serenity and peace you don’t want to leave. Moreover, it offers thrill and adventure with its fun activities like kayaking, fish feeding, and trekking, one of the best experiences I had on the island, and the one I wanted to highlight here.
THE TREKKING
There were 6 of us who did trek the mountain area on the island. Three different routes were laid for options, where each route has its assigned colored flags to give directions. Flags were in red, orange, and blue. We chose the blue one, the least time to take to finish among the three.
We started the trek right after we had Kayaking. And right there at the starting point, I couldn’t contain my excitement for this one-of-a-kind experience, that I was like leading the team the way as I insisted to be the first on the line.
We were like in the forest, wandering around. The scenery was very much pleasing that we couldn’t help but documented the experience with taking photos everywhere. So, the 30-minute expected duration of the trek was not achieved, we kept stopping over to take pictures.
As we went higher, the wind also got more refreshing, as refreshing that you would want to squat for a while, rest, feel the wind, while enjoying the scenic overlooking view of the resort - its beach, lake, and greeneries, from the top.
As we went along, we had met that famed lighthouse of the resort right at the heart of the forest. We stopped over to take shots, however, we hadn’t made clearer shots. We went on.
While continuing to follow the blue flags, and just a few more steps to the finish point, we had come to a place that I considered my favorite spot in the entire trekking area. It’s perfect - the soothing sound of the water splashes, the refreshing breeze of the sea, and the relaxing noise from the swaying leaves on the trees, are just the exact match I loved. I could imagine myself sitting there, with all these I mentioned, in harmony. I honestly wanted to spend more time in that place, however, we were already in a hurry at that moment, so everything in there was just so quick. Maybe that suggests another visit soon.
From a distance, while making our way out of the forest, we had viewed another mesmerizing scenery the resort has, the sandbar. Its sugary white fine sand, and crystal clear water were very much pleasing. Seeing that made us giggle in excitement to experience the resort’s sandbar, so we were like kids running in a hurry to get there.
So the trekking ended with playing in the sandbar, where we spent almost an hour.
It was one of a kind experience and adventure which was worth the long travel and time, and right now here, worth the replay. It was fun, it was life!
