After 5 years, I finally got to go hiking my favorite place, which is Santa Ana Volcano, which is the highest volcano in El Salvador. Santa Ana Volcano is the father of all volcanos in El Salvador,
The altitude of the Santa Ana Volcano, which is also known as Ilamatepec, is 2,381 meters above sea level.
This was my second time hiking this volcano and I will probably be coming here many more times because the hike is spectacular.
The views you experience from hiking this volcano are absolutely breath taking especially from the top of the volcano.
Unfortunatelly this time we hiked when it was very cloudy, so we did not get to experience any beautiful views of the Izalco Volcano, along with the famous crater lake, the Lake Coatepeque and of course the view from one of the highest peaks in El Salvador, which is absolutely incredible.
It took us an hour to get to the top which was pretty quick since our group was pretty small and we were all in pretty good condition. Otherwise it takes an hour and a half or more (depending on the group you hike with and what shape you ard in) to hike up and an hour and half walking back down.
And because it was quite cloudy, we did not stop in too many places to enjoy the gorgeous views and take pictures of it.
The hike started with pretty steep landscape and then continued with some steep landscape half way there.
Last time we hiked this volcano ( 5 years ago) we got to experience the incredible views, so this time the cloudy weather didn't bother us because we pretty much wanted to enjoy a great hike on the beautiful, rocky landscape, plus it wasn't as hot as the last time we hiked.
The only way to hike this volcano is with a tour guide, which usually consists of two hikes a day ( 6 am or 10 am ) and the cost is $3/person. But if you do not have El Salvadorian residence (international) the cost is $6/person.
You can also get your own tour guide, which is probably the best way to do it, because you can pick your time, you can hike your speed and you can learn more about the volcano from the tour guide.
The cost for the tour guide is $30. Depending on how many people you have in your group, you split the $30 cost. If there is 2 of you, your cost will be $15 each. If the group consists of 5 people, you pay $6 each. Plus the $3 or $6 (international) entrace fee.
It's a great place to meet a lot of people and make new friends. Just from our group, we have met a great tour guide, which was very helpful and kind and we also have met a family which moved to El Salvador a two years ago from Vancouver ( where we also lived before we moved to El Salvador). The last young couple we met were from California and they are also planning to movd to El Salvador in July of this year.
The hike was amazing, even though I did run out of breath few times. Need to get in better shape for next time.
I must say though that the hike up was easier and faster than the walk back down, unless you have pretty good shoes with a good grip, otherwise you have to walk down very slowly, because the landscape can be pretty slippery and my shoes were terrible, with no grip at all.
I will share a video of our hike, once I get it done, in my future post.
Hope that you enjoyed our hike, and wish you all a wonderful rest of the week.
Love @joalvarez❤

Have a great day🙂Thank you @rafzat. I absolutely loved it.
Majestic place! Is the lagoon water toxic? What a beautiful color!
It sure is a majestic place. I believe the lagoon water is toxic and you can smell it from the top of the volcano and that is why you are not allowed to stay there for more than 20-30 minutes.
