Hi Hivers! How's your day? Thank you for reading today's blog. Allow me to share my experience during a visit to one of the places or spots here in Cebu, which is Plaza Independencia. While visiting there, I saw a lot of things, including people wearing attire that suited the place. The area is surprisingly vast, and you can also find a museum here. For continuation, here are some details. Shall we proceed?
It's Tuesday morning, and before I went to Plaza Independencia, we still had classes in the morning since we only had a half day. We had already decided last week, along with my friends, to visit Plaza Independencia as it seemed like a great opportunity for me. Because in 2019, my family had already been here except for me; I couldn't join them because I had classes at that time. Only my two siblings, along with my parents, were able to go. While it was sad that I couldn't be with them, on the bright side, I still managed to visit Plaza Independencia now.

Before heading to the plaza, we had a practice chess game, so I waited for my classmates. After our practice, it was already 3 pm. Since I had a motorcycle, while they commuted, one of them could have ridden with me, but unfortunately, I didn't have an extra helmet to be fair. So, they opted for public transportation, while I went for a solo ride.

At 3:30, I was already at the SRP (South Road Properties), and I got caught at a stoplight. I asked my classmate where they were, and they said they were still in Minglanilla, so I was able to arrive earlier because I was on a motorcycle and could maneuver through traffic. Around 4:05, I parked near St. Niño because it was the only place I knew nearby where I could park my motorbike. Since my classmates were still in Talisay, I decided to head to Plaza Independencia first.

While walking there, I got a bit confused about whether I was going the right way because I wasn't really familiar with the area. To make sure, I used Google Maps to trace the correct route. As I got closer to the pedestrian crossing, I was fortunate that when I arrived there, the light turned green, so I could cross safely.

As I entered the entrance, you could really see this sign prominently displayed: "CEBU CITY the Queen City of the South." It truly lives up to its title as the queen, especially with its remarkable beauty. As you enter, you can't help but notice the cleanliness and the splendor of the place.
Since my classmates were still at the terminal, I decided to explore Plaza Independencia on my own to pass the time and avoid getting bored while waiting.

While walking, you'll also see the Fort San Pedro area, where some people are dressed in Spanish attire, fitting for the place's historical ambiance. You'll also spot a horse-drawn carriage (kalesa), which used to be something I only saw in books, but now I could see it in person. As I looked around, I realized that you could also jog here. I imagined if I lived nearby, I would definitely enjoy jogging in this beautiful area.
Afterward, I approached someone because I still wanted to visit a specific place here in Plaza Independencia, which is its museum. I asked around since I wasn't exactly sure where the museum was located. Luckily, the people were kind enough to guide me and point me in the right direction.
As I was heading towards the museum, I couldn't resist the temptation of ice cream. Before continuing, I indulged in some ice cream. Afterward, as I proceeded, I found myself still confused because I still didn't know exactly where the museum was. To clarify, I asked a vendor if this was indeed the location of the museum.

They confirmed it, but unfortunately, it was already closed. I inquired if it was still possible to enter, but a local informed me that it was already closed for the day and only open from 9 am to 4:30 pm. When I arrived at Plaza Independencia, it was already 4:25, and by the time I reached the museum, it was precisely 4:38. I felt disappointed about missing the opportunity, so instead, I continued exploring Plaza Independencia.

I felt so much joy because history was truly being appreciated. I couldn't help but smile when I saw the Legazpi Monument, Pigafetta Monument, Magsaysay Monument, and Fort San Pedro. Having this experience really made my day and felt so worth it. After a few minutes of exploring, my classmates arrived, and it was perfect timing because I had already toured Plaza Independencia. Afterwards, we decided to grab a bite to eat.
Exploring new places on your own can bring unexpected joy, even if things don't go as planned. Despite missing out on some things, discovering the beauty and history of a place can make your day special.

It's true Plaza Independencia a very nice place to relax during free time. I am grateful yo experience like this.
A very historical place to visit.
Yes, mostly during my visit, when I see some people wearing those traditional uniforms, and also when I see a kalesa, it becomes very historical.
It's really a shame that you didn't have time to visit the museum before it closed, but the rest of the experience seems to have been very rewarding nonetheless. Seeing the people dressed in historical clothing, the horse-drawn carriage and the various monuments allowed you to immerse yourself in the history of the place. It must have been wonderful to walk in this suggestive and well-kept context.
I hope you can return soon to visit the museum and further learn about this place full of historical charm.😘
Yeah, it was disappoinment to miss the museum, but the whole experience was great. Seeing people in old-time clothes, riding in a horse-drawn carriage, and checking out the monuments was awesome. I can't wait to go back and see the museum next time to learn even more about the history there.
A great place to walk around chilling. Other people also loved to jog around the place during morning and around 5-6 pm.
It seems like a cool place to take a relaxed walk. It's neat that people also like jogging there, especially in the morning and late afternoon.
This place is where our hallowen party was held😱
Nice to hear that Plaza Independencia part of your halloween party. For me this place it's a perfect spot to do some activities. Thanks for sharing your experience @hilariodigger.
The photos you captured are beautiful. And that place is truly stunning and enjoyable to visit; it's been a long time since I last went there.I hope I can visit there again with my family; I'm sure my child will enjoy the vast space where he can run around freely.
