How's your week going so far, hive-travelers? I hope you're psyched with all the trips you've been to and the ones you're planning to go!
It has been a long while since I posted a "travel post" so here it is. For today let me take you to a virtual tour to a beach in Alcoy, Cebu!
As a person born and raised in Cebu, I am quite aware that our island has got one of the best beaches in the Philippine archipelago, and we do not need statistics to tell us that, because yeah, we do, we actually do. I do not need to be a travelbug to know that. Do you know why? It's because in the local and international news and in Google & the web, the beaches in Cebu always make it to the cut: Best vacation spots to visit when in the Philippines. That's how I knew. 💙
(Disclaimer: Too many photos in this post😅Don't say I didn't warn you.)
Personally I haven't travelled much of Cebu. :( Factors like not enough resources (i.e. financial constraints, no personal car, not enough leave credits so no time to go, etcetera) would be one major reason attributed to that. When I talk to a non-Cebu native, they seem to always be left surprised (sometimes TOO shocked even) when they learn that I haven't been out much in our little island.
My Japanese Student: Teacher, you're so lucky, Ceb(u) has many beaches! Did you go to them all?
Me: Ahm, yeah about that.. No. I've only been to a few places.
Student: REALLY? (Ri-Ri) WHY teacher?! I'm even jealous you live in a very beautiful island. And you don't travel?
Me: Well it's not as bad as it looks though. I've been to a nice white sand beach and the rest of these places look kinda same, so it's really okay.
Student: Teacher, you should get out more! You are there and you don't go and swim and enjoy? It is a waste I think
This kind of conversation is not just limited to my international "friends" but with locals, too. For instance when I lived in Manila for a bit, my Manileño friend would ask me the beaches and islands I've been to in Cebu. I responded, with no enthusiasm whatsoever, that I only have been to a few ones, and that I don't go out as much. He's had the same reaction with my Japanese student haha.
The introduction to this post is getting lengthy so let's stop at that. You may be wondering why that's how I chose to begin this post. It's because the above conversation with my student has challenged and somewhat motivated me to GO! when I have the opportunity to do so!
This particular trip to Alcoy was unplanned and that's why I was wearing a semi-formal attire haha. I saw an opportunity to GO! and so I grabbed it. My friends and I were in Carcar for one of our friend's wedding. We rented a house to sleep the night in after the ceremony. The morning after, we were checked out, and it was a bit early to go back home to Cebu City. I asked the girls if we can go to Alcoy for a swim, since it's just about an hour ride away. It was a great thing that they all said yes! Hurray to small adventures!
This is a public beach but they ask PHP100 entrance fee. I reckon it is reasonable what with the beautiful crystal clear waters. Right?
The weather was quite gloomy when we arrived. But it is still a thing to behold.
The sand is not white but it's very fine, so not bad.
Aside from swimming, you can also just sit on the shore and enjoy the beach ALL DAY--that is some fantastic idea.
This beach is just beside the national road so it's easy to spot.
The sun decided to show up for awhile, so people made most out of it.
I am in love with this photo.
Here's a picture of the other side of the beach.
As you may have noticed, some people just sat on the seashore under the palms. What a cool way to spend the day, right?
People-watching is one of the things one may do at the beach. Haha.
From this angle, it looks like this beach was at the end of the forest.
LOOK UP!
With my friends, sporting a not-so-beach-ready outfits haha
I was wearing work pants and a pair of closed shoes--Not so beach appropriate, I know!
A doggo enjoying his sun bathing. Cutie!
Yes, we may not have worn beach-appropriate clothes but the trouble was ALL WORTH IT! It was my first time visiting this beach, and definitely not the last.
I love how the salty air relaxes me almost instantly. There's a sense of serenity in watching the waves kiss the shore back and forth--how they never get tired of going back over and over and over. It leaves me in awe how the sea is calm and angry at the same time. Some days I wish I know how to swim, so that I can just let the waves carry me wherever they want to take me, and I would be alright with that, even enjoy it, I reckon.
This is one of these random/unplanned trips that make life more exciting and unpredictable, and I am starting to love this idea of out-of-the-blue. Structure/routine sometimes makes me devoid of life because nothing is new anymore. I hope I'd have more trips like these this 2022. Cheers!🌊
‘Til the next post, hivers! Remember that you are loved beyond borders and beyond time & space. Okay? Okay. 💛❤️ Ciao for now! 🤗🥰
