In one of the most atractive places in Havana is the Hotel Inglaterra, one of the most beautiful hotels in the city. In today's post I share with you a little tour of this, one of the oldest hotels in Havana, where we can still enjoy its cosy beauty, culture and history.

Old Havana is beautiful, full of tradition with its colonial architecture and buildings. The Hotel Inglaterra is located in one of the most visited and well known areas of the city, in front of the Martí Park, between the busy Prado and St. Rafael streets.

The building was built more than a century ago and is very well preserved thanks to the restoration work being carried out on it. On the day of my visit, there was a team of restorers working on the mosaics on the walls and ceiling, doing meticulous work to conserve and maintain the place.

I arrived at the hotel on a day when I was strolling around and wanted to have a coffee and take a break from the heat and the walk. I wanted to sit on the terrace, in its renowned Café Louvre, once the place where intellectuals and Havana's youth gathered to share their ideas of independence and freedom for colonial Cuba. However, I changed my mind and decided to enter the hotel. I had never entered before and when I did, I marvelled at the elegance and the atmosphere it preserves from other times.

Upon entering I found a large room with several wooden tables and chairs, illuminated by the light of several lamps under a beautifully engraved ceiling full of details. Everything in the place reminds us of a room from another era, columns, stained glass windows, mosaics on the walls, and meticulous ironwork and precious woodwork. For today's times, this is a small hotel, but it doesn't need to be bigger, for me it's perfect as it is.

The modern is always appealing, the advances and technological developments amaze us with all the novelties. However, for me the classic and the antique have a special charm. Durable constructions made without advanced machinery, handmade ornaments that tell us about the history and culture of the places and times in which they were built. That is the magic of the old, and we can find all that in this hotel, one of the reasons why it has been declared a National Monument and Cultural Heritage.

I hope that those who don't know it can visit it, I'm convinced that they will love the place and walking in its surroundings.

PS: The coffee was excellent, I really enjoyed it! ☕

Cheers to all, and until the next time! 👋🏻
