Hoy tengo el placer de contarte mi experiencia como viajante y es que aunque ultimante no hemos tenido oportunidad de viajar hoy quiero recodar y mostrarte mi experiencia conociendo la Maravilla del Mundo moderno: Chichén Itzá. Su nombre deriva de 4 palabras mayas que significan:
Chi- Boca
Chen- Pozo
Itz -Brujos
Há- Agua
Es decir '' Boca de pozo de los brujos de agua'' . Esta maravilla se encuentra en México, específicamente en la península de Yucatán, esta ciudad de 15km2 fue declarada patrimonio de la humanidad por UNESCO en 1988 y Maravilla del mundo moderno en 2007, se construyó por la civilización Maya hace al menos mil años con construcciones que datan desde el 500 hasta el 1100 d.c.

Today I have the pleasure to tell you my experience as a traveler, and is that although lately we have not had the opportunity to travel today I want to remember and show you my experience knowing the Wonder of the Modern World: Chichen Itza.
Its name derives from 4 Mayan words meaning:
Chi- Mouth
Chen- Well
Itz- Witches
Há- Water
That is to say '' Well mouth of the water sorcerers''. This wonder is located in Mexico, specifically in the Yucatan Peninsula, this 15km2 city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 and a Wonder of the Modern World in 2007 and was built by the Mayan civilization at least a thousand years ago with constructions dating from 500 to 1100 AD.

Hay diversos tours que puedes contratar cuando te encuentras en la riviera maya, playa del carmen o Cancún para ir al Chichén Itzá; sin embargo, nosotros optamos ir por nuestra cuenta, nos enocontrabamos hospedados en la zona hotelera de Cancún así que madrugamos para poder llegar a buena hora ya que nos encontrabamos a mas de dos horas de camino, yo estaba emocionadisima de conocer por primera vez a una maravilla del mundo, así que desayunamos potentemente y arrancamos.
El camino se nos hizo corto pues cuando vas con amigos es díficil que el tiempo se te pase lento, al llegar, lo primero que le encuentras son muchos puestos de vantas de souvenirs, sombreros y aritugios en general, luego hay una taquilla donde puedes comprar tus boletos de entrada que actualmente cuestan aproximadamente 480 pesos mexicanos (23$ aprox), en esa taquilla es probable que muchas personas se te acerquen ofreciendotevisita guíada, que cuesta aproximadamente 500 pesos mexicanos (25$), debo decir que esto fue un poco estresante porque se te acercan muchas muchas personas, asi que decidimos no contratar a nadie en ese momento y solo comprar nuestros boletos.
The entry
There are several tours that you can hire when you are in the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen or Cancun to go to Chichen Itza, however, we chose to go on our own, we were staying in the hotel zone of Cancun so we got up early to get there at a good time since we were more than two hours away, I was very excited to meet for the first time a wonder of the world, so we had breakfast powerfully and started.
The road was short because when you go with friends it is difficult for time to pass slowly, when you arrive, the first thing you find are many stalls selling souvenirs, hats and gadgets in general, then there is a ticket office where you can buy your entrance tickets that cost approximately 480 Mexican pesos ($23.00 approx), at that ticket office you will probably be approached by many people offering you a guided tour, which costs approximately 500 Mexican pesos (25$), I must say that this was a bit stressful because you are approached by many people, so we decided not to hire anyone at that time and just buy our tickets.

El Cenote
Como ya te dije el nombre de Chichén Itzá, quiere decir Boca de pozo de los brujos del agua (dato: los habitantes de esta zona eran los Itzaes o Brujos de agua) y es que dentro de su extensión posee un cenote Sagrado, que los mayas utilizaban para hacer rituales al Dios de la lluvia , el mismo, era lugar de ceremonias de sacrificios para este Dios. Este lugar puntualmente se creía que además tenia una conexión con el inframundo.

As I already told you the name of Chichen Itza, means well mouth of the water witches (fact: the inhabitants of this area were the Itzaes or water witches) and is that within its extension has a sacred cenote, which the Maya used to perform rituals to the God of rain, the same, was a place of sacrificial ceremonies for this God. This place was also believed to have a connection with the underworld.

La maravilla: La pirámide de Kukulcán
Para que nos hablaran sobre esta pirámide si contratamos un guía ya que no queriamos perdernos detalle y cuando estuvimos frente a la pirámide, wow! ojala te pudiera describir la sensación que da estar frente a este maravilloso espectáculo de la arquitectura maya, además que todo ese espacio guarda una energía antiquisima. De lo que nos comentó el guia puedo rescatar que ésta edificación gigante mide 55m, su nombre se debe a uno de los Dioses más importantes de la cultura Maya KUKULCAN o serpiente alada motivo por el cual se observan diversos motivos de serpiente en sus alrededores, además también rinde homenaje al Quetzal un ave que se considera importante en esta cultura y algo que me dejo impactada es que cuando se aplaude delante de la estructura el sonido al chocar con las escalinatas rebota y este eco se escucha como el chirrido de un Quetzal, además si aplaudes 3 veces en cierta sintonía, el eco que se escucha es de su nombre, como si la pirámide misma dijera ''Chichén Itzá'' .
Otra de las cosas impresionantes de esta pirámide es que la ubicaron de tal manera, que durante los equinoccios de primavera y otoño durante el atardecer se forma en las escalinatas una proyección de luz solar en forma serpentina iluminando la serpiente alada que se encuentra esculpida en sus escaleras, éste es un fenómeno que si estas en la zona durante los meses de marzo o septiembre, te diría que no te lo perdieras.
Además se encuentra construida encima de un cenote y se dice que hay un templo debajo de esta estructura, no cabe duda de que los Mayas, estaban muy adelantados en las matemáticas, astrónomia, botánica, deporte y arquitectura. Es así que todas estas características peculiares la hicieron merecedora del título de Maravilla del mundo moderno.
The wonder: The pyramid of Kukulcan
We hired a guide to tell us about this pyramid because we didn't want to miss any detail and when we were in front of the pyramid, wow! I wish I could describe the feeling of being in front of this wonderful spectacle of Mayan architecture, besides all that space keeps an ancient energy. From what the guide told us I can rescue that this giant building measures 55m, its name is due to one of the most important gods of the Mayan culture KUKULCAN or winged serpent, reason why there are several snake motifs in its surroundings, also pays tribute to the Quetzal a bird that is considered important in this culture and something that left me shocked is that when you clap your hands in front of the structure the sound when hitting the steps bounces and this echo is heard as the chirping of a Quetzal, also if you clap 3 times in certain tune, the echo you hear is its name, as if the pyramid itself said ''Chichen Itza''.
Another impressive thing about this pyramid is that it was placed in such a way that during the spring and autumn equinoxes at sunset, a projection of sunlight is formed on the steps in a serpentine form illuminating the winged serpent that is sculpted on the stairs, this is a phenomenon that if you are in the area during the months of March or September, I would say that you should not miss it.
It is also built on top of a cenote and it is said that there is a temple underneath this structure, there is no doubt that the Mayas were very advanced in mathematics, astronomy, botany, sports and architecture. All these peculiar characteristics made it worthy of the title of Wonder of the Modern World.

Tzompantli
Esta estructura era una especie de meseta en donde se colocaban en filas los cráneos de los campeones y dondellas sacrificadas con el fin de honrar a los dioses. Servía también como una forma de honrar a la muerte y se cree que de esto deriva la tradicion el altar del día de los muertos en México.

This structure was a kind of plateau where the skulls of the champions and maidens sacrificed in order to honor the gods were placed in rows. It also served as a way to honor death and it is believed that this is the origin of the tradition of the Day of the Dead altar in Mexico.

Templo del Jaguar
Esta estructura debe su nombre a que hay representaciones de águilas y jaguares en relieve, esta representaciones se muestran comiendo corazones humanos, se cree que en en esta plataforma se exhibian cráneos de enemigos sacrificados. Esta plataforma posee cuatro escaleras las cuales son adornadas con esculturas de Kukulcán.

This structure owes its name to the fact that there are representations of eagles and jaguars in relief, these representations are shown eating human hearts, it is believed that the skulls of sacrificed enemies were exhibited on this platform. This platform has four stairways which are adorned with sculptures of Kukulcan.

Estas estructuras derivan su nombre a la edificacion de 200 columnas alrededor del Templo de los Guerreros.

Como ya pudiste ver, este sitio de importancia arqueológica esconde una cultura y una historia impresionante. Mi recomendación es que vayas muy temprano para que hagas el recorrido entero ya que es bastante grande, si bien no puedes pagar el guía también puedes optar a acercarte a diversoa grupos y así aprendes algo, lo otro que te recomiendo es que vayas con alguna guía impresa y mapa, ya que así se te hará la vida más facil. Necesitas estar preparado para el calor, asi que te recomiendo que lleves sombrero ropa cómoda, gafas de sol y bloqueador, por último disfruta hasta el último minuto.
Este lugar es muy extenso y lamentablemente no tengo las fotos de todo, sin embargo, espero haberte llevado a viajar con mis recuerdos de la vez que visite una maravilla del mundo moderno la pirámide de Kukulcán. As you could see, this site of archaeological importance hides an impressive culture and history. My recommendation is that you go very early so you can do the whole tour as it is quite large, although you can not pay the guide you can also choose to approach different groups and so you learn something, the other thing I recommend is that you go with a printed guide and map, as this will make your life easier. You need to be prepared for the heat, so I recommend that you wear a hat, comfortable clothes, sunglasses and sunscreen, finally enjoy until the last minute.
This place is very extensive and unfortunately I don't have pictures of everything, however, I hope I have taken you on a journey with my memories of the time I visited a wonder of the modern world the pyramid of Kukulcan. Hola @joysse que extraordinario que hayas viajado hasta ese lugar, soy ingeniero civil y me llama mucho la atención estas estructuras antiguas y cómo pudieron haber sido construidas. Me gustaría visitar ese lugar algún día.
¿Y esa estructura enterrada es parte de la pirámide de Chichén Itzá también o de otra estructura?

Hola @joysse me encanto tu post, ademas me hiciste recordar el viaje que hice cuando tenia 14 años y pude conocer Chichen Itza, recuerdo que me dio miedo bajar las escaleras de la piramide porque la inclinacion hace que pienses que te iras de boca ja jaja. Fue fabuloso parta mi ese viaje y veo que para ti tambien, gracias por compartir. Abrazos
