Hello Hivers
Quarry Lake
Welcome to Quarry Lake, located in beautiful Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
Not actually a lake, it was at one time an open pit coal mine, producing anthracite coal, one of the most valuable and wanted types of coal.
This pit was closed in 1974.
The reclamation was given to Gerry Stephenson who....
happened to be an avid fly fisherman. He had a vision for the unsightly hole in the ground. With some landscaping and....
allowing the quarry to fill with water from an underground spring, he created an ideal fish habitat.
Today, people can fish here for Arctic Grayling or Rainbow Trout, as well as it being an ideal spot for....
swimming. There are also picnic tables, benches, and a well maintained pathway around ....
the lake.
Just outside town a car is need to access it, but there is also a leash free park for dogs, washrooms, and many connecting trails if you want to take a long hike, or gravel bike ride or even mountain bike trails.
Paid parking has just been implemented, and is a bit of a sore spot with many, but it is worth....
the price to see an outstanding recreational area.
Thanks for viewing Quarry Lake.
Wow those are some pretty awesome shots.
While that is a nice work done by the person in charge. Making this place little bit better than it was. While I must say a job well done. And also that is somewhere that anybody would definitely like to be at.
A perfect place to enjoying the view, have a cup of tea and some music in the ear. Early morning or during the sunset would be perfect for the above scenario ;)
Thank you...amazing what someone can do if they have a vision....thanks for your kind words...

That coal pit that turned into an a lake is amazing. I want to commend your photography skills. By the way, what camera are you using?
Thank you, I have a Nikkon 7200, although it would be difficult to take a bad picture of a view like that... Yes an ugly mine turned into that oasis, he had a great vision and made it happen...
