Hello Hivers
Trinidad Cuba
Trinidad is a large town in central Cuba with a pop of 75,000. Originally it was the sugar trade, and nearby plantations that spurred it's development. Today it is tobacco and tourism.
We stayed at a nice modern hotel on the beach which was only a short .....
taxi ride to the town centre.
A mix of tourists and locals use the beach and it was never crowded or pestered by people trying to sell you merchandise.
The beach was excellent for lounging, swimming and there are many activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving.
Trinidad is one of the most well preserved cities in the Caribbean, and many old buildings remain as well as cobblestone streets.......
An interesting sight is the large number of old automobiles, Many form the40's, 50's and 60's. The US trade embargo and economic situation, has left them with little choice but to keep using the older cars. They have become a tourist attraction and many are ....
used as taxis. Tourists like taking a ride in an old auto. It wasn't until 2011 that Cubans could buy and sell cars freely.
For a large town there is a lot to do. The mountains are a short distance away, with hiking, bird watching, and camping. The town is well .....
preserved, and is a UNESCO Heritage Site. With many museums, cobblestone streets and well preserved historical buildings.
The Caribbean sea offers beach, snorkeling, diving, and boat tours.
This part of Cuba is...
much more then just a lay on the beach at the walled in resort type of vacation.
During the evenings in town there...
is plenty of live music and we were told by many that ...
crime serious crime was rare, but like everywhere you just be aware and use common sense.
We spent a week and it was terrific weather....
we were never bored and really enjoyed ourselves. We didn't plan on going, I won the trip in a contest, after experiencing it, I would definitely go back.
