It was summer when we went to the remnants of an old church in San Fernando, La Union.
The name came from Pindang which means sun dried. This is the Pindangan Ruins located in San Vicente, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Pindangan means an area where meat or fish is sun-dried. It is a method used to preserve meat or fish by adding salt and sun- drying it.
An old well that has dried out.
This used to be a catholic church and is more than two centuries old. These are mainly remnants as the church was destroyed by an earthquake.
In order to tour the area, one has to pay an entrance fee. The place is being preserved and maintained. It definitely holds religious and historical value.
Only the walls are left. As we strolled around the church, I noticed that the walls are from bricks and they are still sturdy to day even when plants and mosses grow on them.
This looks like a wide yard but this used to be the inside of the church. Now, grasses grow on the floor
If you want a side trip from the beaches of La Union, this is a great place to tour. It is just less than a kilometer away from the national highway. This place gives a glimpse of history, a spanish-era vibe. Thankfully, the ruins are being preserved and I hope it stays that way for others to appreciate.
