Barquisimeto: More than a city, a cultural and traditional experience [Eng-Esp].

¡Hello travelers!

Recently, I had to leave Valencia to go to a technology event in Barquisimeto, the capital of the state of Lara, which many of us know as the musical capital and twilight city of Venezuela, where the warmth of the Guaros and that particular singing when speaking, where a vacuum seeps in, leaves a beautiful memory in the land of the Divina Pastora.

I left my suitcase and my work on Saturday morning to go for a walk through the city and its world of contrasts. But first a traditional Guaro breakfast: a hot arepita, grated cheese, cream, avocado, and a coffee with milk. The perfect combination on the palate, to start a good day of walking.

I started the day at the Bararida Zoo and Botanical Park, where the entrance fee is 2$ and during the tour you will be able to admire the beauty of a great variety of birds, primates, fish, snakes. After walking around the place for three hours I left with mixed feelings, the elephant that lived there and that I met a couple of years ago, had died.

After leaving the place I passed by the imposing Metropolitan Cathedral, with its neo-gothic style, stands as a symbol of faith in the city. Next to it, the majestic Monument Manto de María Divina Pastora, the tallest Marian sculpture in the world, which pays homage to the patron saint of the state of Lara.

For lunch I decided to go for a pepito which is made from a piece of soft bread, with little bread crumbs that is stuffed with beef or chicken or mixed meat along with grilled cheese and to that they put garlic sauce, bacon, cheese, corn, tomato and mustard.

I had heard very good things about this culinary creation, but I believe that far from being just a stuffed bread, it is undoubtedly a cultural symbol worthy of being taken anywhere in the world.

To close the tour I went to the famous flower of Venezuela, also known as Flor de Hannover, a construction that stands majestically in the Eastern Triangle of Barquisimeto, as an emblematic symbol of the city and the state of Lara. This imposing structure, designed by Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas, represents the perfect union between art, engineering and symbolism.

La Flor de Venezuela is more than a monument or a cultural center. It is a legacy that has become part of the cultural heritage of Barquisimeto and the state of Lara. A symbol that represents creativity, innovation and love for the Venezuelan land. A reminder of the importance of preserving our history and culture for future generations.

Barquisimeto is a palpable example of the cultural and human richness of Venezuela. Despite the difficulties, its people keep alive the joy, tradition and love for their land. As I always say "a country is made by its people", and in Venezuela, there is a thriving and resilient people fighting for a better future.

Watering our roots, cultivating love for this land and valuing our people are fundamental actions to build a prosperous future for Venezuela. Barquisimeto, with its beauty, its culture and its people, reminds us that hope always flourishes in the hearts of those who love their country.

¡Hola viajeros!
