Hey Hivers!
It's almost 1 month since I've stayed in Samboan. The reason of my stay here is to explore the southern part of Cebu.
I have already featured some of the iconic attractions in the south of cebu and most of them are white sand beaches, water falls, heritage parks, and watchtowers. I also included some of the restaurants that serve scrumptious food.
Today, I will be going to share with you my recent trip in Boljoon. It is one of the coastal town in the south and it is also a place abundant of historical sites and beautiful attractions.
What I did in Boljoon? Check this out.
The Ili rock is one of the tourist attractions in Boljoon. But do you know that this tourist spot have gone through a bit of controversy as the carving and development first started?
I've read an article of how people in Boljoon protesting heavily against the destruction of this beautiful natural gem but because the Local Government Unit's (LGU) intention is to develop the place and create a viewing deck to attract more tourists, the development continued despite the protest of the people until they had successfully carved and developed the mountain.
After the development, that particular part of the mountain was not anymore covered with green foliage instead you can only see limestone rock; paved road; concrete steep stairs; rapelling board; and the rails.
There is no shade on the top so it is not advisable to climb to Ili Rock if it is too hot especially if your tolerance of the heat is too low. Remember you will climb 136 steps first before you will be able to reach on the top.
When my friend and I went there, were so lucky because the weather that time was gloomy. Although we climbed there at around 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon but we were able to manage because it was not hot.
As my friend and I started to climb, we've both talking and laughing but when we reached in the middle, I started to catch my breathe and requested my friend to walk slowly. I don't know if he felt the same as I didn't see it to his face. Although his face was covered with sweats already but he looked so fine. There are 136 steps to complete before you will be able to reach the peak.
There are 2 viewing levels in Ili Rock. The first one is located on the rapelling board side and the 2nd one is on the top of Ili Rock.
I was in awe as I reached to the 2nd viewing level. I got to see the jaw-dropping view of the adjacent mountains, neighboring islands, crysta-clear water and the main town of Boljoon.
The wind was cold when you are on the peak. It gave us a nice feeling especially when our sweats were almost covered to our whole body.
My friend kept telling me to always watch my steps as I walked closer to the edge of Ili Rock. He doesn't like the feeling when he tried to get closer to the edge. He kept giggling.
Although I had felt the same but I still walked closer to the edge and of course I gave an extra care.
As we went down, I asked my friend to took me a photo with the Ili Rock as my background. This tourist spot is situated very close to the main road and very close also to the crystal-clear seawater of Boljoon.
That was my first visit in Ili Rock and the climbed experience was great.
Before I climbed to Ili Rock, I waited my friend first at Kasikas.
When you get tired and hungry after strolling around, you can relax and dine-in to the well-known food park by the sea in Boljoon. It is called Kasikas . While eating you will be able to enjoy the nice view of the sea, the Ili Rock and the fresh air.
So after I paid a visit to the church, I went straight there to quench my thirst. Since my tummy was still full I just ordered a bottled water.
This is the view when you're in Kasikas. You can see the Ili Rock. Have you seen it?
While waiting my friend to arrive, I took the opportunity to take a deep breathe and enjoy the picturesque scenery.
Before I went to Kasikas, I paid a visit first to the 3 historical sites of Boljoon. These are the Baluarte; the Escuela Catolica building and the Church.
I was able to see the beautiful baluartes or watchtowers in the different towns of the south of cebu. They are so beautiful and always reminds us how our countrymen defended our land from the Moro raiders. The Baluarte in Boljoon is the largest watchtowers I have seen in the south of cebu so far.
Since my Boljoon story is too long, I will continue my story on my next post. I will be going to share with you my experience in visiting the parish church of Boljoon; the Escuela Catolica building and the 2 well-known beach resorts. So stay tuned!
If you had been to Boljoon, how was your experience? Drop a comment below.
