Today I want to share my trip to Quitinday Hills, Camalig Albay for my 21st birthday.
It has always been a tradition to visit different places for my birthday. Today we decided to visit Quitinday Hills located in Barangay Quitinday Camalig Albay. It is a popular tourist destination here in our place because its composition is somewhat similar to the famous Chocolate Hills located in Cebu but they differ in terms of landscape. Other differences between the two are: Quitinday Hills has three summits that could be trekked by visitors and are lush green all year round unlike Chocolate hills.
How to get there?
From Legazpi City, you may ride a jeepney with a “Polangui” signage and alight at the Quitinday junction. Then, rent a tricycle for the road trip to Quitinday hills.
You need to pay 20.00 for the entrance ticket and another 20.00 for the tourist registration and environmental fee, 40.00 in total (almost $1).
Before you get to one of the three summits, you must first trek for about 3-5 minutes.

Brief History
Maybe you are wondering how those hills came into formation.
Quitinday hills have fossils that belong to the Phylum Foraminefera which are bottom dwellers and are composed of shells that are 5.3-1.8 million years old. These are the names of the fossils that are found: Amphistegina quoyi, Amphistegina sp., Coral fragment, Elphidium crispum, and Operculina sp. The species' previous habitat was warm, shallow water, and it mostly lived on the seafloor between the coast and coral reefs. The fossils show that the area was originally submerged in water and that it was elevated and eroded to form the hills.
What I also like about them is that they promote waste segregation and recycling materials (water bottles)

Yes, one of the reasons why it became so popular here is because of its similar appearance to Chocolate Hills and yees it's Mt. Mayon 🙂
