Greetings friends of HIVE

This weekend my girl and I have been traveling, we needed to disconnect from the big city and breathe fresh air, so we decided to visit a place that was close to our city but in the mountains.

After reading some forums to see what they advised us, we decided to visit the Sierra Subbética, specifically our first stop was a town on top of a mountain called ¨Zuheros¨, a small town in the province of Cordoba.

👉Here 👈I leave you the location.

This town is located on a hill, so we had problems parking since its population is barely 648 inhabitants, which makes it a small town with few houses and on top of a mountain. Even so, the town hall has two public car parks, one at the entrance of the town and the other at the exit.

The first thing you see when you enter the town are small and narrow streets, as well as slopes, before I told you that the town is on top of a mountain, so imagine, hehehehe

When you get to the town square we see a beautiful image of the tower of an old castle that is still standing and a fountain below. The fountain is connected and turned off at certain hours of the day since in Spain and especially in the South we are in a drought due to the lack of rain that we have been suffering. #

We were walking through the whole town and the truth that left us surprised, since any street you went down had its charm, its houses painted white with lime, its windows all decorated with natural plants and flowers and everything quite clean. We who come from the city are not used to such beauty.

Here below I leave you some photos of corners and streets where we walked that undoubtedly invited you to take a photo for its beauty.

At noon, after spending more than 1 hour walking through the town and having gone up and down all its streets, we got a little hungry so we decided to stop for lunch. Just at that moment there was a pharmacy clerk and we asked her where she advised us to eat and she advised us on a couple of places. One of them was a hotel restaurant and he told us that he prepared one of the best salmorejos in town, so we decided to go there.

Both the Hotel and the restaurant are called Zuhayra, the truth is that we were pleasantly surprised, everything was delicious and we were surprised that everything was prepared by them, there was nothing pre-cooked, which is what is usually done now.

Andalusian salmorejo, typical food in the southern regions of Spain

For those of you who don't know it, salmorejo is a kind of cold puree, a typical dish from southern Spain and is made of bread, tomato, oil and garlic. All well beaten until a cream is left, and it is served with egg, ham cubes and other ingredients. It is very typical in Andalusia, with which each city or town has its own salmorejo, adding ingredients to give it its flavor.

We ordered a salmorejo first and then a plate of oxtail croquettes, without a doubt, one of the best croquettes I've ever eaten in my life.

We left this place with a very good taste in our mouths, since we loved all the food and the price-quality ratio was good.

Then we continue on our way and visit the town church called Ïsia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de los Remedios¨, it is located next to the castle that I showed you before and the truth is that being a humble church it is very, very beautiful. Below I show you photos inside.

Leaving the Church we continue walking and we find a small square that overlooks several houses and a peculiar tree. We took a picture of it because even if I tell you, it's hard to believe. the tree was heart shaped. It doesn't look like it was pruned or manipulated to have that shape, so I understand that he was only taking the shape of a heart.

We kept walking until we reached a route that we found on the internet where they said there was a suspension bridge. We wanted to see the bridge and I have to say that when you are in the middle and start walking the whole bridge starts to sway as if it were going to fall, hehehehe. Still we crossed it all.

On the way back we found a lot of trees, especially olive trees but there were the occasional almond tree, so as it was the harvest season we stopped to see if we could find any almonds that had fallen on the ground. We collected a few that we took home to crack open with a hammer.

And so far our first day in the Sierra Subbética, later we returned to the hotel to take a good shower and rest a bit. In the next post I will tell you about the town we visited on the second day.

Thanks for reading me
