HighBridge Road in North Peninsula Park Florida

in Worldmappinlast month

Well winter here in Florida is still a balmy 75 degrees (23C) yesterday. So, no snow but we have sand and I'm loving it.

For this post, I went out to the State Park that is between us and the beach. It's a very large State Park, and several of these Parks are joined together, making them even larger in combination. There's not much other use for the land, it floods often, nearly every big rain and high tide, the roads will flood over. This leaves a large marshy area for the birds, fish in the canals, and all kinds of other wildlife.

One of the highlights is the Drawbridge on HighBridge road. The smaller boats are able to drive under it, but for the larger boats, the drawbridge raises. The boat just honks their horn or calls over the radio, and the bridgemaster opens the drawbridge. I was lucky enough to catch it opening for one of the boats in the video.

What's really interesting about this spot is the Halifax river shown with the bridge over it is actually a salt water river, getting most of it's water from the ocean tides in addition to the freshwater runoff. This means there are all kinds of saltwater fish in the river and canals, including dolphins, sharks, and wide variety of others.

I also flew over to the beach and grabbed a few shots.

This is the little beach access at North Peninsula Park (Ormond Beach) it's about 10 minutes from our house (safely inland).

This shot is looking North, you can barely make out the buildings at Flagler Beach way at the top if you zoom in.

This shot looking South you see, well nothing :) That's why we like it! Actually if you zoom in and look really, really close at the top you can barely see the beginnings of the North Daytona Suburbs.

Here's another shot of a fishing boat.

And then this one from the same spot just showing off the Drone Zoom lens capability.

I really liked the design of these canals and waterways. Looks like great fishing spots!

Here's one a little lower eye level from the roadside.

And then of course, we need a few cloud pics.

Was a great day to be out and certainly a welcome change from the show shoveling and wood cutting/carrying I was doing last year at this time. So far we are loving the new place. I think the favorite place I've ever lived. Really kinda wishing I had actioned moving here 40 years ago when first considered it. But at least we're here now and going to make the most of it!

Wow, that is pretty impressive! It's cool that you are able to fly the drone there. In Michigan they have rules about flying drones in the state parks which I think is totally stupid because where better to fly them. I am not sure I even know the reasoning.

Yes, similar laws here, but as with most there are workarounds. While they can restrict your right to take off and land in the park, they do not control the airspace above it. I took off from private land and landed on private land "near" the park. I also of course made sure I had my spotter in place to keep Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) throughout the whole flight. All flying was in accordance with all FAA regulations. *** Just in case the Karen's are watching these posts too!

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I'm still on the fence about it. I get they want to keep things natural for people, but being able to fly undeterred makes the state parks the perfect place.

Agree the state parks would be ideal and of course safer than flying over crowds of people in the city. I've heard people complain about the buzzing noise if they are low and close, but really? Even if they are there when the drone takes off, it's a few seconds of buzzing like a noisy beehive. Much more natural noise than most of the complainers make when they are running their mouths the whole time during a hike. (Yes, I'm more of a quiet hiker and woods person, lol).

Every now and then when we are camping we hear one even though it's supposed to be illegal. It usually throws us for a second, then we realize what it is. I think the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, so I wish the regulations were a little less strict. I have a pair of DJI Phantom (2 or 3's) in my office at work, but I don't know if they have ever been flown because we have a small farmers airport a couple of miles down the road from us.

Back in Colorado, we lived next door to an old farmers airport. Even though it hadn't been used in a decade, it was still on the maps. One of the benefits of getting the Part 107 UAV license, and with the DJI drones, is that it's very easy to "unlock" most restricted areas to fly in. That was one of my main motivators for choosing DJI, as I originally had plans to run side business doing real estate videos and such. I did a few gigs, but no time to make it really take off. Besides if you have to do it for a living, kind of takes the fun out after a while. I prefer it as a hobby with an occasional paid gig to offset the cost.

That's good to know! I've thought about going for my license, but I honestly don't know enough about it. Maybe one day in my free time I will do some research. Man, Colorado, Vermont, Florida... Just add Michigan to that list and you will have lived in all the best places!

Looks like a very interesting picture my friend

Thanks it's an interesting place for sure!

Cool pictures with all the drone activity I want to get my own to see if I can stuff in my area.

Nice landscapes 😍🧑‍🎄

The beach is very straight and long, the waves of the water gradually come towards the beach and merge. Your flying experience must have been amazing. Great photography

Yes, it was a great day to be out. I did a lot of additional flying not on the camera. First time in a long time that I had to put in a second battery!

Why is there nobody on the beach with 23°? It's a perfect weather for a walk there or even sit and relax... Waves are quite impressive

I've never drive over a bridge like this I think we don't have those here

Right? This area is seldom crowded even when it's warmer. It's why we like it. Away from the touristy spots, and I guess the locals are just used to it and don't visit it as much anymore.

It was a very beautiful view. It is undoubtedly a sight of the incredible beauty of nature.i love this photography.. thanks for sharing this beautiful view 😍

Thanks, it was a great time shooting it!
