Hoje venho partilhar-vos a experiência da minha visita à cidade de Siem Rap no Camboja com o objetivo de visitar os famosos templos da Região, sendo o mais famoso, Angkor Wat. Este monumento é um tal símbolo para o pais que o puseram como o centro da sua bandeira.
Cheguei a Siem Rap vinda de Hanoi (Vietnam) numa viagem que durou cerca de 1h45 e aterramos no modesto aeroporto internacional de Siem Rap. Este aeroporto, entretanto, já foi desativado para dar lugar a um novo e mais amplo aeroporto.

Today I come to share with you the experience of my visit to the city of Siem Rap in Cambodia with the aim of visiting the famous temples in the region, the most famous being Angkor Wat. This monument is such a symbol for the country that made it the center of its flag.
I arrived in Siem Rap from Hanoi (Vietnam) on a trip that lasted around 1h45 and we landed at the modest international airport of Siem Rap. This airport, however, has already been deactivated to make way for a new, larger airport.
À chegada, deve ser adquirido o visto de entrada (caso não tenha adquirido previamente online). Tem um custo de 30€ em uma validade de 30 dias com uma única entrada.
Upon arrival, an entry visa must be purchased (if you have not previously purchased it online). It costs €30 and is valid for 30 days with a single entry.
Visto adquirido, saí do aeroporto para apanhar o tuk-tuk que já havia reservado antes da chegada. A prioridade era adquirir o bilhete para o dia seguinte para visitar os Templos, algo que é recomendável que seja feito no dia anterior para evitar as confusões na manhã.
Once acquired the visa, I left the airport to catch the tuk-tuk that I had already booked before arrival. The priority was to purchase a ticket for the next day to visit the Temples, something that is recommended to be done the day before to avoid confusion in the morning.
Cada bilhete é individual e intransmissível, razão pela qual é tirada uma foto para colocar no bilhete e devemos andar com ele o tempo todo.
Foi-nos apresentado a modalidade de 1 dia por 37$, 3 dias por 67$ e 7 dias por 72$.
No meu caso em particular, só iria fazer a visita durante 1 dia por isso adquiri o bilhete de 37$.
De seguida, seguimos para o hotel, escolhemos o Apsara Centropole Hotel junto ao old market, esperava-nos um longo dia e o aguardávamos com grande expectativa, seria um dia de emergir na história e arquitetura daquele que é um dos maiores ícones asiáticos.
Each ticket is individual and non-transferable, which is why a photo is taken to put on the ticket and we must carry it at all times.
We were presented with the option of 1 day for $37, 3 days for $67 and 7 days for $72.
In my particular case, I was only going to visit for 1 day so I purchased the $37 ticket.
Then, we went to the hotel, we chose the Apsara Centropole Hotel next to the old market, a long day awaited us and we looked forward to it with great expectations, it would be a day to emerge into the history and architecture of what is one of the greatest Asian icons.
No dia seguinte, tivemos o mesmo motorista do dia anterior a recolher-nos no hotel para iniciar o percurso. Quando muitas vezes se fala em Angkor, pensa que se trata de um único templo quando na realidade é um complexo de templos numa área que conta com cerca de 400m2, assim é recomendável que tenham um meio de transporte seja ele qual for.
Dado que só íamos fazer a visita durante um dia, optamos pelo circuito pequeno que engloba os principais templos: Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Keo, Ta Phrom, Banteay Kdei e Srah Srang.
The next day, we had the same driver from the previous day picking us up at the hotel to start the journey. When people often talk about Angkor, they think that it is a single temple when in reality it is a complex of temples in an area measuring around 400m2, so it is recommended that you have any means of transport.
Since we were only going to visit for one day, we opted for the small circuit that encompasses the main temples: Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Keo, Ta Phrom, Banteay Kdei and Srah Srang.

O motorista deixou-nos num dos pontos de partida e recolha dos tuk tuk, ai é comum estarem uma serie de motoristas a aguardar nos seus tuk tuk enquanto os seus passageiros realizam a visita do templo.
Iniciamos a nossa caminhada até ao templo, pelo caminho vais encontrar várias casas com vendedores de rua a vender todo o tipo de artigos, desde os típicos souvenirs até a artistas que pintam quadros sempre com a temática de angkor de fundo. Fiquei fascinada com um quadro que vi que não resisti a comprar por 40€, um valor significativo para uma economia como a do Camboja. Os vendedores aceitam dólares ou euros.

The driver dropped us off at one of the tuk tuk pick-up and pick-up points. It is common for there to be a number of drivers waiting in their tuk tuks while their passengers visit the temple. We start our walk to the temple, along the way you will find several houses with street vendors selling all types of items, from typical souvenirs to artists who paint pictures always with the theme of Angkor in the background. I was fascinated by a painting I saw that I couldn't resist buying for €40, a significant amount for an economy like Cambodia's. Sellers accept dollars or euros.
Quando nos aproximávamos do templo, havia imensos auto intitulados guias que se oferecem para fazer a visita guiada ao templo a um de custo de (à época) de 15$. Aceitamos e contratamos o serviço, o guia acompanhou-nos na visita e foi fazendo uma explicação da história do templo.
Esta cidade era a capital do império Khmer e os templos construídos no século XII durante o reinado de Suryavarman II para celebrar a glória da dinastia khemer e com o intuito de ser um templo Hindu de devoção a Vishnu. Entretanto, com o tempo transita para um centro de devoção budista.
Por alguma razão ainda não descoberta, a partir de determinada altura é deixado ao abandono ao ponto que a Natureza se apoderou do espaço. Em 1992, é feita uma candidatura e é reconhecido pela UNESCO como Património Mundial da Humanidade. Existe desde 1998 um acordo de cooperação com a China para a restauração dos edifícios.
Na visita ao templo, é importante referir que sendo um local religioso não é permitido visitá-lo sem ter os ombros ou as pernas cobertas.
When we approached the temple, there were lots of self-styled guides offering to take a guided tour of the temple at a cost of (at the time) 15$. We accepted and hired the service, the guide accompanied us on the visit and explained the history of the temple.
This city was the capital of the Khmer empire and the temples were built in the 12th century during the reign of Suryavarman II to celebrate the glory of the Khmer dynasty and with the intention of being a Hindu temple of devotion to Vishnu. However, over time it became a center of Buddhist devotion.
For some reason not yet discovered, from a certain point onwards it was left abandoned to the point that Nature took over the space. In 1992, a nomination was made and it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. There has been a cooperation agreement with China for the restoration of buildings since 1998.
When visiting the temple, it is important to note that as it is a religious site, it is not permitted to visit without having your shoulders or legs covered.
O maior impacto à chegada é sem dúvida a imponência do edifício com as suas torres que visitando no Nascer do Sol é uma experiência única devido ao posicionamento do Sol face ao Monumento e o seu reflexo na água.
The biggest impact upon arrival is undoubtedly the grandeur of the building with its towers, which visiting at Sunrise is a unique experience due to the positioning of the Sun in front of the Monument and its reflection in the water.
Aparentemente a sua construção teve em conta fatores astrológicos e nada foi deixado ao acaso.
Explorar o templo é caminhar por um trajeto cujas paredes estão cravadas de história mitológica sendo que é possível subir para ter uma vista panorâmica.
A parte menos boa do guia, ainda que muito simpático, é que tinha um discurso gravado e vinha mais preparado para tirar fotos em locais estratégicos. Toda a vez que fazíamos uma pergunta fora do discurso programado ele via-se incapaz de responder.

Exploring the temple means walking along a path whose walls are steeped in mythological history and it is possible to climb up to have a panoramic view.
The least good part of the guide, although very friendly, was that he had a recorded speech and was more prepared to take photos in strategic locations. Every time we asked a question outside of the planned speech he found himself unable to answer.
