Exploring the Faculty of Agronomy
Yesterday, Sunday, I went to visit a friend who lives in Villa Urquiza. He had been telling me for some time about a beautiful place near his house, and I finally decided to visit the Faculty of Agronomy, located in the Villa Urquiza neighborhood. I didn’t have high expectations since it’s in the middle of the city, but I was greatly surprised by the peace that can be felt there. It's one of those places in Buenos Aires that reminds you that the city is not just filled with concrete and noise, but that there are also spaces of peace, nature, and tranquility. Being there made me feel as if I were in a distant province, surrounded by greenery and just the sound of birds singing.
The first thing that greets you upon arrival is the vast green space, a true breath of fresh air in the heart of the city. On weekends, like the one I chose to visit, the place becomes the perfect refuge for those looking to escape the daily routine and immerse themselves in nature.
As I walked along the paths, I came across people enjoying all the activities this space has to offer. I saw groups of friends walking calmly, some sitting on benches enjoying their mate, and many more practicing outdoor sports, like soccer or yoga. Others were riding their bicycles... In short, everyone was happy, and with the growing stress of everyday life, these spaces are becoming more and more valuable.
According to what my friend told me, this atmosphere of calm and connection with nature is not coincidental. The history of the Faculty of Agronomy has a lot to do with the origins of this place. It was inaugurated in 1904 and is one of the oldest institutions in the city. Since its opening, it has become a leading educational center in the field of agricultural sciences and, over the years, also a green lung in the heart of the Capital. What’s interesting is that, beyond its academic role, the place was designed with a focus on environmental conservation and the utilization of natural spaces.
One thing my friend didn’t like too much, from his perspective, is that the spaces within the Faculty are highly politicized. In my opinion, this is practically inevitable, as it is still a space where different points of view and ways of seeing life coexist, as happens anywhere, so a faculty wouldn’t be an exception. Of course, everything is felt more intensely, as one might expect from youth.

Conociendo la Facultad de Agronomía
Ayer, domingo fui a visitar un amigo que vive en Villa Urquiza, él desde hace tiempo me estaba comentando que había un lugar lindo cerca de su casa y finalmente me animé a visitar la Facultad de Agronomía, ubicada en el barrio de Villa Urquiza. No tenía muchas expectativas porque está en plena ciudad, pero me sorprendió enormemente la paz que ahí se respira. Es uno de esos lugares en Buenos Aires que te sorprenden al recordarte que la ciudad no está solo llena de concreto y ruido, sino que también hay espacios de paz, naturaleza y tranquilidad. Estar ahí me hizo sentir como si estuviera en una provincia lejana, rodeado de verde y solo con el cantar de los pájaros.
Lo primero que te recibe al llegar es el gran espacio verde, un verdadero respiro en medio de la ciudad. Los fines de semana, como el que elegí para ir, el lugar se convierte en el refugio perfecto para quienes buscan escapar de la rutina y sumergirse en la naturaleza.
A medida que caminaba por sus caminos, me encontré con personas disfrutando de todas las actividades que este espacio tiene para ofrecer. Vi grupos de amigos caminando tranquilamente, algunos sentados en bancos disfrutando de su mate, y muchos más practicando deportes al aire libre, como fútbol o yoga. Otros con sus bicicletas... En fin, todos felices, con el estrés creciente de la vida diaria de todos, estos espacios van cobrando cada vez más valor.
Por lo que me comentó mi amigo, este ambiente de calma y conexión con la naturaleza no es por pura casualidad. La historia de la Facultad de Agronomía tiene mucho que ver con el origen de este lugar. Fue inaugurada en 1904 y es una de las instituciones más antiguas de la ciudad. Desde su apertura, se ha consolidado como un centro educativo de referencia en el área de las ciencias agrarias y, con el paso de los años, también como un pulmón verde en el corazón de la Capital, uno de esos espacios tan valiosos. Lo interesante es que, más allá de su rol académico, el lugar fue diseñado con un enfoque en la conservación del medio ambiente y el aprovechamiento de los espacios naturales.
Algo que no le gustó mucho a mi amigo, desde su visión, es que los espacios están muy politizados dentro de la Facultad. En mi opinión es algo prácticamente inevitable que eso ocurra, sigue siendo un espacio donde conviven diferentes puntos de vista y formas de ver la vida, como ocurre en cualquier lugar, por lo que una Facultad no sería la excepción. Por supuesto, se vive todo más intensamente, como es de esperarse de la juventud.
