There are places that captivate with their beauty and others that are idealized because of the memories they hold. I believe that Plaza Fabián de Jesús Díaz, in Valencia, Venezuela, embodies both.
The first time I visited this plaza was when I was a teenager, and it was because I went to visit a classmate regarding her thesis.
I remember telling her, “You live in front of a very beautiful plaza,” and she said nothing.
What I really liked about the plaza were its fountains and the fact that it was full of koi fish and turtles—something that remains true to this day, even though in the photos I’m sharing, the fountains weren’t working.
Later, I found myself coinciding with the plaza often because it’s a regular venue for cultural events, something I also enjoy. By the way, the plaza has an art gallery where I even had the opportunity to present a lecture on my photographic work.
From concerts to fairs and festivals.
It’s also an ideal place for exercising, which I started doing over the years. Recently, an outdoor gym was reopened there, and it really has all the basics to work out well.
Plaza Prebo, as it’s also known, has pathways specifically designed for exercise enthusiasts.
Even for those walking their pets.
In the afternoons, the atmosphere is lively, family-oriented, and wholesome.
Sometimes I go there to unwind and walk. I enjoy seeing how everyone coexists in a public space that brings them together—like a shared appointment that, while not explicit, happens indirectly.
The plaza caters to all tastes: from exercise and art to parents, Christians preaching, caretakers and their playful pets, families celebrating their teenage daughter’s birthday, music lovers enjoying the amphitheater, police officers at the station who sometimes play ping-pong with visitors, and even couples sitting together to mend their problems or show some affection.
