Koningsdag (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkoːnɪŋzdɑx] ⓘ) or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander.[1]
Koningsdag is known for its nationwide vrijmarkt ('free market'), at which the Dutch sell their used items. It is also an opportunity for "orange madness" or oranjegekte, a kind of frenzy named for the national colour. WIKIPEDIA
Went shopping early in the week to buy something orange to wear for Kings Day.
My colleague Mazumba and I met in Amsterdam and took the train to Utrecht.
It was chaos everywhere and we settled for a hamburger for lunch - very expensive and not that great. We had a beer together and later stopped for a couple more drinks.
Would I do this again - I think not - would have been fun in my teenage years. However a boat ride would have been more comfortable as everywhere it was just too crowded.
The colour orange was seen everywhere
it was so crowded on the streets
Music and food stalls everywhere
It was a grey day with intermittent rain
A nice beer to round off the day
I agree with you, too many people. It's great if you know where to find a good clean toilet as well especially after a couple of those beers.
Haha @eflin-essie - the toilets are quite clean as you have to pay for most of them. Some even charge 2 euros (R40).
