Exploring Flower Pot Beach at Sunset in Trinidad and Tobago!

A Hidden Beach!

Today we visit Flower Pot beach, a much lesser known, hidden and not at all frequented beach in central Trinidad! The majority of Trinidadians do not know where it is or that it at all exists! Because of this, it is not developed with beach facilities or buildings or any of the sort. We explore the sights in and around the virgin beach while also visiting the another awesome hidden location lower down in on the coastline.

We arrived at the beach nearing sunset, aspiring to take some photos at golden hour that would garner us the best visuals. You can see my buddy in the shot above with a mirrorless camera just excited to take some shots! There were only one or two people there to bathe but otherwise, it was quite empty!

The waters were extremely calm and clean, the golden hour lighting hitting the rocks. As you can see from the photo above, there aren't really any beach sands but really there were larger more coarse pebbles. This made it feel lesser of a beach but the waters were just as fun and relaxing. The gentle crashing of the waves calmed us down immediately.

I sent up the drone to get a better view of the location. You can see from the shot above that most of the coastline was covered in thick forest and mangroves only giving way for the little spacing that was Flower Pot Beach. It was quite peculiar and unique!

Looking directly down you can even see that there were some sparse tree lines even on the beach itself. It was even more beautiful from the air with the amazing emerald green waters revealing itself as well as the golden sun bathed rocks and shoreline as well as the trees.

The above shot is of the main beach area with such a small spacing of sandy beaching and the rest are just rocks and dirt. It just feels like a magical little cove. You can see three people bathing in the extremely calm and serene waters. I really like how I captured the ripples of their bathing with this drone shot.

This was this peculiar looking rock that upon being inspected, was not at all a rock! It seemed to be a large concrete structure of sorts left behind from some larger structure or maybe it was once part of an intended structural measure to prevent coastal erosion from an area nearby. Trinidadian companies always end up leaving things all over the country, so it was not a surprise to see!

seaesd (2 of 17).jpg

There seemed to indeed be the remnants of jetties from a very long time ago all over the beach as you can see in the photo above! These were from a time long gone and I can't help but wonder what the history of it was! Look how it looks now, imagine what future archeologists might find later on, maybe nothing at all!

seaesd (4 of 18).jpg

Here is another shot from on the shoreline itself from behind one of the trees. You can see that in some areas it may be quite difficult to bathe because of the size of the rocks in the water, making it quite hard to walk or wade.

I found a concrete drain of sorts that lead out into the ocean. I could not help but take some shots here of the waves that crashed on the shoreline.

You can see how large the pebbles were as the water hit my shoes here. I was not at all expecting to reach so far up to me as it was very soft in nature but I quite like the shot! I just love how the golden hour sun just makes everything looks amazing!

After we had our fill at Flower pot, we hopped in the car and drove a little way down the shoreline to this other hidden spot to get some shots of the sun itself as it neared even closer to the horizon. The area is unknown and not many people come here except the fishermen.

seaesd (9 of 17).jpg

There is a large cement factory to the right but it still does not take away the beauty of the location and the sunset at all! You can see a tripod someone set up on the top right already waiting for the sun to get to the horizon!

seaesd (17 of 17).jpg

It was quite cloudy so I will be showing you some shots of the same area with the sun setting as well since we are covering this location today! The boats and the golden hour lighting just made everything look breathtaking.

seaesd (5 of 15).jpg

Here is a shot of my buddy doing his thing and taking in the sunset itself! He was having quite the fun. Nothing beats golden hour photography except for maybe astrophotography but technically isn't it the same thing because the sun is also a star?

seaesd (14 of 15).jpg

I managed to get a magnificent shot of the birds that were in and around as the sun set in the background amidst the boats as well! I just love how they look as if they were flying in formation!

seaesd (1 of 8).jpg

This is a shot I was waiting for. The perfect shot of the sun itself as it reflected off of the tranquil waters. The boats seemed to be taking in the show and the birds in the distance made it seem like all of those quintessential sunset paintings.

Here was the final shot before the sun had gone past completely, its rays causing the clouds on the right of it to glow alight and cast rays and shadows. It was quite magnificent!

I sent up the drone here as well to see what I could find and found a lot of amazing sights! There were shipwrecks scattered all over the ocean area! It was quite alarming what Trinidadian companies were doing with the environment, leaving ships that are too expensive to get rid of to rot!

seaesd (12 of 17).jpg

I took a shot of one of the rusted old ships from a top down angle and the water's colors just shone through paring well with the orange rust. It was quite beautiful in its own way despite how ugly it was making the bay.

As we prepared to leave, feeling fulfilled by the sights of the evening, I felt so excited about the amazing shots we got at Flower Pot as well as this other hidden location. It feels nice to be truly in nature away from all the popular tourist locations in our country. Thanks a lot for coming along, Cheers!

The boat photo featuring the pelican has become my absolute favorite. The captivating view of the beach captured in that picture is simply breathtaking. 📸✨
