Beautifully Rough Waters!
Guayamara Bay can be found in the little town of Rampanalgas, Toco in the north eastern part of the island of Trinidad. It is well known for its rough waters with high wave crests with vibrant blue colors that I really wanted to get some slow motion shots of for a long time. Today was the day and the weather was just right for the moody shots that I intended to get! Today we explore Guayamara beach with its beautiful waters, intricate rocks and islets as well as some of the coastline!
After a long and arduous drive along the eastern coast, we finally arrived at the beautiful stretch of beach with its almost orange sands and icy blue waters. Of course the waters were not at all cold in any way but the hues were that of icy blue with some greens and so on.
There were lots of beach houses and resorts and you can see from the photo above perched upon the hill that allowed them a great vantage point for amazing views of Guayamara itself. There were lots of coconut trees and rocky outcrops on the beach itself which gave the bay its unique but beautiful landscape.
I found a random space between the coconut trees and parked the car making sure not to get into a muddy area where I may get stuck. A cute seadog came to greet me as I got out and I gave him some bones that were left over from my lunch for being so polite!
The rain had just fallen leaving a nice moody and damp look that I was really pleased with for my moody shots! The sun was just about to set as well and so I worked quickly to get my footage and photos before I miss my chance! Getting here was quite hard in terms of timing as I was not sure how long it would have taken.
The waves were quite rough and high as I expected and I could already see them crashing on the rocks that the bay is well known for! Excitement grew and I could not wait to get exploring!
This is what the right side view looked like, the beach terminating with a small rocky isthmus and some coconut trees on top of it. THere were people sitting on concrete benches as you can see above taking in the amazing views and waves as the sun set. You do not bathe here as it is extremely dangerous and the
There were times were the waves engulfed the rocks entirely producing their vibrant colors as they did so and it felt like I was watching huge explosions of fireworks each time it did so! Nature is so awesome.
The rock above that you see is the largest in the bay and the one I would be focusing on the most for my footage as the waves crash up on this one the most with lots of force and energy. I would hate to be caught in the water here and crushed up against this rock!
The left side view of the bay as you see above was even more exciting with more rocky hills on the beach itself with amazing textures and colors in and around the sands. In the ocean itself there were smaller rocks and islets that I was eager to explore with the drone as well!
I climbed down from where the car was perched atop the rocky cliff like hill and this is how it looked viewing the car from down on the sands. This hopefully gives you an idea of how high up the road was from the beach area itself.
Down here, we got a better view of the left side coastline and how the beach stretched down in the that direction! I loved that there were footsteps someone left running along the sands in these shots, they add such an interesting thing to look at on the sands, telling a story!
Looking down the right side instead, I saw fishing rods stuck upright in the sands left by people who were relaxing in the their beach chairs waiting to get a bite! Apparently the biting was good today and thy were still setting up their blue tarpaulin to spend the evening as you would see in the photo above. It would be almost like camping but fishing all throughout the night. I've done this a few times before and it is a hell lot of fun!
I decided to take some some shots to document the layers that presented themselves within the rocky outcrops on the beach. I just loved the mixture of orange, grey and other colors and they seemed so unorthodox as these scenes are not at all what you expect to see on beaches in Trinidad! All this after years of the sea being relentless on the coastline, I wonder what it would looks like in a few hundred years.
Finally I got to send up the drone and the first area I wanted to start with was the left side of the beach itself with the isthmus. It was not at all devoid of souls as there was a small family there who drove in on a clearing higher up and were enjoying the view by themselves! When they saw the drone, they literally starting smiling and waving which always warms the heart when people do this!
Flying back now, I saw the blue tarpaulin the people who were fishing were putting up before and I decided to check that out. It seemed that they were quite done with that and were periodically checking on their rods and moving their coolers and supplies. It almost made me want to join them with memories of doing this in the past coming back to me!
Just across from them was one of the rocks that the waters crash upon violently. This one was long and thin, almost like a sharp knife's edge. It did not at all look like this form the coastline!
Lower down was the larger rock I was speaking about earlier. This one, as you can see from the photos above was wider and took quite the beating from the forceful and violent waves. It just shows how relentless of a mistress the sea is and how violent nature can be! I was trying to capture the highest blast of water but just as soon as I flew up it it, the waves for some reason calmed down and I only got some small crashes!
I my impatience got the best of me and I was also running out of battery and needed to explore the rest of the coastline so I took off in the left side of the beach direction past where I could see with then naked eye. This side of the coastline was amazing with even more rock formations with vibrant color layers even on this rainy moody day!
I found this weirdly shaped bay that was seemed to breathaking with an almost triangular shape! It was so cool and I had never seen anything like it! The waters around it were green and there were large rocks scattered all about. What stood out though, was how the cliff side formed what looked like a sheltered cul de sac that looked like an awesome private beach to camp on!
At this time, I decided to fly back and while doing so, I saw some more amazing cliff formations that were not at all visible from the other side. The lush coconut trees and other oceanside vegetation was amazing to see and I could not help but take photos as I was returning as you can see from above! It just the vibrant colors and awesome textures of the rocks for me!
I was quite satisfied with how my shots came out especially the moody ocean footage that needed to get in slow motion for one of my projects! Guayamara did not at all disappoint with its breathtakingly colored waters, intricate rock formations and especially rough yet somehow poetic waves that showcased the power and force nature could manifest.
