Beautiful Emerald Waters
Macqueripe beach is located in the north western corner of Trinidad and is one of the famous north coast beaches of the island. It is a must visit for tourists and is quite unorthodox as it is situated at the base of a hill that has a wonderful short pathway through beautified forest down to the beach below! Today we explore the awesome sites at the beach from the air as well as from the ground!
The road to Macqueripe is filled with lush countryside vegetation and bamboo patches here and there. It is one of the most clean and relaxing drives through any sort of countryside in Trinidad. There are a multitude of nature attractions and hikes as well as waterfalls just on this road alone that I might as well describe it as the hike capital of the country! That is why you will see cars parked at the side of the road from time to time with no building in site.
The carpark was quite empty by the time we got there as it was a week day! We were at work while other were at work in their offices if you know what I mean! The beautiful trees and bamboo continued on even here as well. You can see the beach facilities here at the top and we still have to walk down to the beach below.
This is what the start of the walk down mostly looks like! There are awesome trees and vegetation the whole way down with nicely paved pathways and wooden fencing incase walking up back while wet becomes too slippery you need a place to balance yourself on the steep slopes.
This is an aerial view of the walk down as well as the carpark. You can see the zig zag pathways through the forest. It is quite magical and awesome to walk down, you can even at times see and hear monkeys and other animals of the sort too!
Nearing the end, we saw and heard the waves as well as the life guard booth! The sides of the fencing were more manicured here with more tame trees such as palms and ferns. The excitement started to build!
We stopped to take a few portrait shots for fun. I managed to capture people walking back up in their towels to their cars in the back ground. At least you get the idea of how people handle the bathing here. They usually stay wet until they get back all the way up to change so people usually bathe when they are ready to leave and enjoy the rest of the beach before that.
Here is an aerial view of the end of the pathway down with an amazing view of the breathtaking emerald green waters. You can see that there already were some people down there taking in a dip. The waters seemed quite calm from up here but as you will see, it was another story for another part of the bay.
I loved that you could see the rocks and reef in the waters below. he trees form the hillside grew over the waters as well making for such a breathtaking shot. The sands were quite empty not like it usually is on a weekend or holiday. I was quite glad as the cacophony is not something I can handle as a big introvert.
I climbed down to the extreme left most side of the beach and managed to get a photo of the waves as they crashed into the support wall in a violent manner. I was almost soaked and dashed out of the way just in time! The camera was safe and so was I!
I flew the drone out on the left side of the bay that was made up of the large peninsula. It was so huge and breathtaking with cliff faces and vegetation. The waves seemed to be crashing upon it quite violently as well. I, at the moment, vowed to get a boat at some point and go exploring these spaces up close!
This is what that area looks like up from above. You can see the waters on this side were not as calm and tranquil as the other side lower down where there was actual sandy shores. I just liked how the waves looked so powerful and explosive!
The peninsula of the right side was smaller but even more verdant compared to the other side. The waves seemed to be less violent on this side as well and had uncountable inlets and caves that looked so cool to explore at some point.
I could not get enough of the green waters in the main bathing area! The sun refracted in the waves as the waters ripped causing such breath taking patterns of light to form at the bottom in the shallow areas and the deeper jade green areas were just as breath taking with its vibrance and how easily I could see through to the rocks and other things below!
I wonder what treasure may be under there from the colonial pirate days when ships were once anchored here. I could just picture them! Look at those corals and rocks amidst that vibrant jade colored water! This is why I call it the Emerald Gem of Trinidad!
Macqueripe is surely and unorthodox beach yet because it is, it is filled with such breathtaking and wonderful features. The waters, the peninsulas and the rocks below as well as the lush pathway down to it all comes together to give a magnificent and rich nature experience! Thanks a lot for coming along, cheers!
I just couldn't get enough of the jade-colored seawater! It's, indeed a wonderful sight. Nature at its best!
Thanks for sharing
I was feeling the same way! I wonder if it has something to with algae or coral! My pleasure!
The photographs are breathtaking.
