One of the Australia's fascinating structure is the Pinnacle Desert, situated at around 188 km to the north of the Perth. It will take around 2 hours drive to reach there. The desert is located inside Nambung National Park. The standing limestones of varying shapes and sizes are the unique attraction of this place. These limestone pillars are result of reaction of calcium that came from broken seashells and corals with the elements of the land during that period. They exhibit a range of colors, including white, yellow, orange, and red. Living in Western Australia for more than a year, I felt like I came to a completely bizzare place when I visited there. It felt like I was walking on the Mars. The sand dunes of this place closely resembles to that of the surface of Mars.
It was around 6 PM while I reached here and it was time for the sun to set as well. So I got a chance to experience the desert beauty when the sun casts a magical glow in these pillars giving vibrant appearance. There is a 4km loop drive around the Pinnacles that is open all round the year. By desert, it doesn't mean that plants and animals can't thrive here. This place is home to the grey kangaroos. We were lucky to see one while we were driving to the entrance of the desert. Luckily it didn't came to hit our car. They can be so unpredictable while they are crossing the road and bump into the car due to fear. The place is also rich with floras and faunas and provides habitats for reptiles and birds. The native bushland here is very pristine.
There's also a discover centre which was already closed by the time we reached there. It provides valuable information about pinnacle's formation, ecosystem and the native tribe history. Also another fascinating thing about this place is being remote and free of pollution, you can watching sky full of stars and milky way galaxy at night. Many people do that by setting up a camp, some bringing astronomical telescopes and instruments. Even with a naked eye, it's clearly visible.
