Greetings, world travelers!
Here I am back, LightCaptured, your favorite travel photographer :P
Let me share with you some memories, pictures and thoughts about the time, well spent at one of the pleasant "corners" of the port of Varna, the biggest sea city in Bulgaria, also called the "Sea Capital of Bulgaria".
I am always attracted to sea and ocean ports. Moreover, in the last few years, the sea ports in my country were given a face-lift with the financial support of the European Union and now the most of them look much more modern and practical, some even fancy.
Here, after such a reconstruction, a huge car parking has been built and we all know how useful are all parking slots, especially in a big city. That same parking could be used if one decided to walk the Sea Garden, one of the other beautiful places in Varna. Or just explore that Eastern part of the city, with its old houses, small streets, and beautiful facades.
Here is what the visitor sees first when entering that part of the port:
There are a few places to take some rest, sit on benches and hide of the hot sun at the summers, or the rains in the spring and fall, or the snow in the winter. Yes, this city has all the four seasons, every year.
It could be really a romantic experience to sit on that bench and talk to a friend while the rain drops are drumming on that clothed roof above the heads.
It is the biggest sea port of the country, as far as I know. It serves both cargo and passenger ships and boats.
Here is Orpheus, waiting its captain, or probably he is a musical conductor who knows how to make Orpheus sing the most enchanting song...
On the side of port, facing South, there are plenty of restaurants, cafeterias, bars, night clubs. We had some refreshment drinks, coffee, cappuccino and juices, as it was too early for dinner yet and the day was perfect for a longer walk.
Poppies were waiting for me to take a photo of them. It is amazing how they find cracks between the pavement and the crane rails to dig their roots.
There is even a Ferris wheel and amusement park there, I am not sure if it operational during all the seasons. At that moment, it was looking like a storm is coming so I didn't see many brave riding it :)))
Thick red line saying "!!! DO NOT CROSS !!!"
And then... typical for that geographical latitude, plenty of locals, walking, smoking or fishing across the forbidding line.
There is even an option to fly, if one knows how to use those wings...
Well, imagination is always much stronger than reality!
That part of the port is a part of a fairy-tale scene, don't you think?
A matter of scales. The huge cranes are smaller than this yacht:
Here an old pirate wooden ship could be boarded for a water tour in the summer. The brave could climb up the observation deck and feel what it is to be a pirate captain!
Or just sit by the board and wait for the boat to moor...
Here is an old neon lights caption, probably thirty, if not forty years old. "Varna". Does it still glow at night?
What is a port with no lighthouse? Well, for the matter of fact, this port has several of them, on each of its "corners" and when they are switched on at dusk, they give some wonderful and beautiful water reflections.
Plenty of graffiti, walking down South. Now here is a black paint sprayed inscription I don't understand. "And before, and now, Varna hates Sofia". (Sofia is the capital city). All I have to say is that I am happy because I do not understand such statements!
Here is how the yacht and boat "corner" looks from above.
With plenty of graffiti from the Eastern part of the port, but I imagine where there are storm and strong winds, the sea waves wash away some of them street paintings.
So you may notice there are plenty of layers. That whole "alley" was covered in graffiti. Probably left behind an art festival. Or just a way for the street artists to express their creativity and feelings.
One thing I loved during that walk was that there were plenty of people, yeah, you can't tell that by my photos, I know ;) So one could go almost everywhere. I didn't see many places forbidden to be visited.
The final part of that lovely walk was to have a sea food dinner with a view towards the sea. "BM Gulf" was the restaurant we chose and the food was awesome. Everything was absolutely delicious. No photos here, as we were too hungry! :)

Believe me if you want, but this sentence is playing in my head as the beginning of one of my future sea posts.
But the similarities with you stop there. I cannot tell such a magical tale as you manage to tell, taking us for a walk with you and your camera in this coastal corner. I can't even show such beautiful photos (you really are my favorite travel photographer) presenting everything from its beautiful side. And even if there is no beautiful side, you are creating it. Through your pictures and words. A real magician!

I use Canon cameras, mainly 5D Mark 3. I never shoot automatic, even on my phone :) Fully manual or semi-automatic, Aperture priority.
