Hi all 👋🏻
Today I want to share with you all a walk around the BIG BURN Gorge to show you some #WATERFALLS, located in a forest#HIGHLANDS of #SCOTLAND 🏴 / UK 🇬🇧
I include also 2 short VIDEOS I made from the waterfalls and their area. 🎥
in #GOLSPIE what is in the
This is part of our #explorations out, to #discover new areas, since we live in the highlands since end of January this year. 😊
😔 Sorry for not being around a lot lately, I do check in and support you all… but I am not active as much as I would like, I have been occupied with some life’s changes we have to deal with very shortly. I will update you on this as soon as the plans become set in stone 🤓 so watch this space…
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!
Look at his last post : “Wednesday Walk A recent walk in Hazelwood Park.“
It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 if you want to join… the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Today’s selection will be of 31 photographs and 2 videos.
Date: 5 March 2023.
The Photographs and videos in this post are all taken with my iPhone 📱🤓
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are walking along with me on this #walk over the forest Path in: #GOLSPIE, to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes. 😊
Screenshot of the Location on Google maps:
For the observant viewer… 😉 yes, this is almost next to Dunrobin Castle and gardens I showed you last Friday. We did this walk after we visited the castle.
If you missed it. You can find this post here: 🏰 ”DUNROBIN CASTLE and GARDENS, GOLSPIE - SCOTLAND 🏴” ~ Market Friday
Let’s start our WALK:
Are you coming along? 😉😊
After parking the car we see next to it a few signs.
The first one / the thumbnail.
And the next one describes the wildlife that can be found here.
There are a few routes one can take, we decide to go to the waterfalls and follow this sign.
We enter the wooded area and see we are high up. The top of the gorge. We have to walk slowly down of course following the path. 🤓
The path is ok, even after it had rained.
Hhmmm two directions. Straight of left?
We choose left as I think it doesn’t matter, we will get somewhere in the end 😎
Walking further we see woods, still the fallen leaves of autumn 🍂 and a stream.
We follow along.
Many trees came down. I can imagine the path isn’t that occupied in the winter months so they won’t clear it yet.
Wow look at this tree… and all the shoots out of the bottom of it. 😳
This cute fern along the tree bark caught my eye. The moss is beautiful too.
We finally reach the next signs. Again cross roads.
One path goes via the view point bridge and the other one is the longer one (I remember from the map) to the falls. Where you can go further and later back via the view point.
We choose the longer path 😎
And I am glad we did. As we see some smaller waterfalls along the way.
The first one… 😊
Beautiful hidden behind the vegetation.
Suddenly we come across a blockage. This large tree is fallen over the path.
Closer look at it. I think it is secure enough to walk under it and continue the path.
Watch your head 😎 and let’s continue our walk…
We arrive at the next waterfall… it is a soft trickle… not a full stream that comes down.
I decide to make a video… just for the sound.
So turn up the volume and listen… 😎😉
Did you like the sound? I do… 🥰
Let’s go further…
Now we reach a wooden board walk that takes us along the GORGE… 😎
Crossing wooden bridges, there were 6 in total.
Here you see the path on the right and the river next to it. This is looking back when we almost reached the waterfall and end of the path.
After a while we reached the largest waterfall… there is a viewing platform over the water. We stand on and see the waterfall up close. 😊
Ok now I thought I made a video of the other one.
Let’s make another one from the big waterfall and it’s surrounding looking back over the river too…
Enjoy:
So beautiful… we are surrounded by nature 😊 and nobody around in the winter.
Best way to spend the day don’t you think?
View walking back.
Walking back a little bit where we came from… we came from the left over the bridge, but now we go right…
Remember the view point from the other direction… I think we are heading that way.
The little sign shows the directions… I like this iron sign. Very old school 😎
Oh, did I tell you before… we were going down the gorge. Yep… I did hahaha 🤣 so now… we have to climb all the way up again.
This time we have steps. What makes it a bit easier.
Half way… we look back 🤓
Us catching our breath here. Hehehe 🤭
Well done us… let’s climb further up.
We cross some more streams too.
With this little bridge.
And here I have to tell you. The view point was boarded up and the vegetation was too thick to see the waterfall from the top.
So I didn’t take a photo and hope you don’t mind.
As I know the views from the bottom where more interesting anyway 😉
Walking back along the path… through the #forest.
I find this time next to the path another iron sign…
Funny thing is. The bend direction is exactly how the path goes…
See…
This is the way we went to left. Now we came from the right.
At the end of the path, almost back at the parking area… I notice this little sign… interesting 🤔
Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And here I say “that’s all for today’s post my friends we are back at the car and say goodbye, join me next time for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻 Even some #artworks once in a while will come by” 🎨

Is there anything as beautiful as a forest where you can take the adventure in many different ways? I honestly wanted to go left too! I didn't think it would matter and it looked like either way would give you something special.
The winding path, the trees, trickles of water, and those cool metal signs! This a road less traveled, in my opinion. I am always bending under trees in the paths. Otherwise, I would never get to see much. I must say,, even though it seems less traveled, the paths are well-defined. I might be wrong about it is less traveled.
Did you see anyone while you were walking?
The little trickles of water are just as interesting as the bigger, more defined ones. I was trying to figure out what kind of bulbs were trying to come up, toward the end of the post. I was also trying to see if they had bluebells near the riverbeds. They should be coming along soonish!
A lovely walk - thank you for taking me along with you!
Have a great rest of your week! Hive on!
I know… whatever route you may chose they are all exciting and wonderful… so many adventures. 😉
I think it is too, a route less traveled. As the larking was so small, out in the middle of nowhere.
We haven’t seen anybody else there.
The paths were not in a great state. Luckily they did fix parts of the wooden walk way.
I couldn’t identify the bulbs either. They had been covered by snow not that long ago… so the leaves and everything else looked a bit squished.
There was nothing flowering yet. Just the snow drops we saw at the castle. Those were the first signs. I had seen.
Happy you came along Denise 👋🏻😊
Thank you so much, happy to share. Will catch up soon. I’m so busy this week. Especially as hubby is away for work.
Have a wonderful week too 🤗🥰🌺

Nice post. I have only done that walk once, in the early 80s when I was on a school trip in primary school ! I quite enjoyed it, and have driven past many times since, and have always thought I need to drop back in to do it - these pics have spurred me on, so maybe one day soon !!!

WOW the new area you in is spectacularly beautiful, love the nature and those waterfalls I love them
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
It is truly beautiful up here. Although this was almost a 2 hour drive from the house… 😉
But we don’t mind exploring. So we go out and about.
Thank you so much! 👋🏻😊 Have a wonderful day @tattoodjay

Certainly! That's so wonderful to hear! Yay! Thank you Jackie! I'm still catching up! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
I love the sound of waterfalls. I have been to several ones, and I get so excited for swimming.
Have a wonderful day ☀️🌺Yes, me too @shula14 😊👋🏻 it was such a beautiful place. The sounds so calming… and nobody there.
Absolutely beautiful and no snow now? Have you been to Glen Nevis yet? That's a beautiful, if rather tough trail and a little scary in places but well worth it.
Lovely to see you enjoying the stunning scenery and best wishes to you both :-)
Thanks @nathen007 👋🏻😊 this was one day before our next snow… hehehe 🤭
No we haven’t yet. So little time in a day, especially the weekend. I hope we can see it. Before we go again.
I will enjoy it all, as much as we can. It’s so beautiful. Love it.
Thanks a lot, best wishes to you and yours too 👋🏻😊 enjoy your weekend!
Go again? Oh nooooo lol....at least you're never going to run out of stuff to post about ! Have a wonderful weekend :-)
Yes… imagine this. The UK home office refused my residency 😳 being married to a Brit doesn’t do anything anymore as a EU person. Them leaving the EU is the worst thing ever…
Even when we had help from them last year with what to do, what to fill in and when to apply. They refused me on a sentence they filled in and say now I’m past the deadline. So I have to leave… in May
sigh
I will enjoy every little bit of time I have left. And more adventures coming right up. 😉
Thanks, you too!
Ahhh I'm so sorry. The residency rules are a disgrace when you're married to a Brit, as well as being ridiculously expensive for the permission to stay visa etc. I know someone else on Hive who had the same issues. I completely agree about leaving the EU, absolute shame.
I'm so sorry. Hope everything will eventually work out for you both :-)
We are thinking now. Their loss… and move on.
I know dandays had… same as us.
Just to crazy for words actually. Thanks a lot @nathen007 😊 we never expected to be refused. I think they are refusing a lot of people at the moment who normally would have been approved.
Thank you kindly, let’s hope. Planning the move as we speak, so lots to do and arrange.
Have a wonderful weekend 👋🏻😊
!ALIVE
Yes, it was Dandays. I kind of understand why it's so tough, to stop huge influxes of extended families and sham marriages from certain Asian countries but it's so unfair on legitimate people.
We just got my wife a 10 years visitors visa and even though she's had a flawless visiting history over the past 9 years on 1 and 2 year visas, it still felt as if we were being interrogated by the secret service, and it still cost almost £1000 which had she not been approved, wouldn't have been returned. It's all so wrong.
Anyways...
Good luck with the new move :-)
Such a long amazing walk you've shown us. I began the walk with you and am glad I ended It with a sigh of happiness.
Have a wonderful new week ☀️🐝Aawww that’s wonderful to hear @balikis95 👋🏻😊 thank you so much you came along and enjoyed the walk with me.
You are welcome, dear. Have a nice day ahead.
Thank you kindly 👋🏻😊
Your are welcome.
Oh... It's just like you say! Just you, nature, fresh air, the sound of the waterfall (yes, I watched both videos...lol), and no other people around! What more can you ask for?
It is such a beautiful area! Thank you for sharing it with us by taking us along, @littlebee4👍!
Have a great day!
Yes, and I loved every moment of it… nobody else was there.
It was wonderful.
Aawww thank you so much for watching the videos. 😉 much appreciated!
Maybe I do more of them during walks.
Have a wonderful evening 😎
!ALIVEHappy you came along @jacoalberts 👋🏻😊
👋😉👍
Thank you for the token! I do appreciate it!
Great hike! I like the rawness of it all. Nothing beats the sound of nature. So relaxing! It's overwhelming in a good way to be when all you hear is nature alone when you are so used to sounds constantly other than nature.
I know… best thing ever. Just wished I could switch off the buzzingggggg in my ears hahaha 🤣 it never stops ringing.
Love raw nature especially when nobody is around.
Have a wonderful weekend ☀️🌺Thanks a lot @leeart 👋🏻😊
We are busy beings and can get a lot busy sometimes so get what needs doing done we will be here awaiting your less busy days.
Nice walk in nature you had there Jackie and I like the video of the waterfall you shared, perhaps you should share more of such videos often in your posts, looks cool.
Keep well 🙂
Yep… busy busy… will try to catch up bit by bit… 😉🤓 soon there will be some normality again.
Thank you so much Joe, I thought let’s change it up a bit. I take often little videos, but never shared them. Maybe I should indeed. One gets a better feel for a place especially when it’s nature. This was such a cool walk there. Happy I could share it with you.
Thanks a lot 😎
You too take care and enjoy your week Joe 👋🏻☀️
!ALIVE
Being in a natural space has a different special feel to it, thank you for sharing.
It does… one is so connected to nature then, you can recharge energy.
Love it.
Happy Friday Joe 👋🏻😊
(I’m a bit behind still hahaha)
Happy Friday Jackie
Its all good take your time 🙂
Thanks a lot, much appreciated Joe 👋🏻😊
You are most welcome 😉
Keep an eye out for wood ear mushrooms, looks like perfect conditions for them to be growing on the trees.
I did look around… but haven’t seen any. I only saw one white fungi up the tree almost fully wrapping itself around the little one.
If you look closely to the photo with the fern on the tree side, in the far back left. It’s there… on the darker small tree 😉😎
Aha there is a spring mushroom hiding there. Looks like dryad's saddle, its a pretty good edible if you get it when its still small and not spongy yet. It hasa sort of watermelon taste to it. They are good tempura style.
Couldn’t tell what it was. I was looking for a way down. But it was steep and very muddy there.
Didn’t know that. Thanks. Very interesting the watermelon taste…
Happy Friday!
Thank you so much @ewkaw 👋🏻😊 much appreciated! Have a wonderful evening 😎
