Join me today as we walk around the #HISTORICAL #LANDMARK of WADKÖPING ~ in ÖREBRO SWEDEN. 🇸🇪 You will see houses dating back to the 17th, 18th and early 19th century. They preserved and moved these from the city centre and collected them like an OPEN AIR #MUSEUM.
It created a village / district you can wander through to see and feel how a vibrant #city was like in days gone by. So come along… we have lots to discover 😁

Let’s start our walk now, come along 😊

We wander through the large city park of Örebro to get to the village, it is just outside its centre.
It is the end of November so we do see some decorations for Christmas 🎄 around us. It was a cold day as during the night it had frozen hard.🥶 We visit late in the day as we explored the city itself first. (More posts to come 😉) It is now just past 1600h and soon it will get dark.

I love the silhouettes on top of it 😊

0B6A8313.jpegWe enter the historical landmark and see a cute cobbled street. With a #WELCOME sign 🪧 The stands on the side will house soon a Christmas market 🎄 We were here at the wrong time/ day haha, but it won’t stop us from #exploring this open air museum 🤓 ourselves.

There is an information board, on it we can read:
0B6A8314.jpeg

A layout of the buildings… the village, on the right next to the text.
0B6A8315.jpeg

0B6A8279.jpegWe wander and see around us houses painted in a bright #RED colour.

0B6A8280.jpegLittle squares here and there. I can imagine the #Christmas #market to be a success with so many stalls everywhere.

Even though it is late and almost nobody around, a few houses are open and we can take a peek inside. We see scenes of times gone by… every day life from the villagers.
0B6A8281.jpeg

0B6A8282.jpegThe next room #fascinated me. Just have a closer look at the #walls behind the women. Very very old #MURALS. Painted with several colours. So beautiful to see that they decorated their walls with beautiful #images.

We walk further and look up once in a while. The balustrade decorated with Christmas lights ✨
0B6A8283.jpeg

So many streets to explore, one could get lost haha 😂 Let’s focus on the main streets through this village. I like that they even thought of details to put in the front of the houses like this very old wheelbarrow. It fits perfect the time of the ancient buildings.
0B6A8284.jpeg

In a little side street we see a large wooden horse 🐎
0B6A8285.jpeg

0B6A8286.jpegThe red of the houses just stands out so much. It must have been beautiful back in the days. Just imagine leaves 🍃 on the trees. A cute #courtyard 🥰

A little alley looking out over the large park shows little wooden lambs. 🐑 Animals would have been part of the village life back in the days.
0B6A8288.jpeg

The museum was closed for the day, but this cute street has a beautiful view. Especially with the decorations high up. 🎄
0B6A8290.jpeg

At the far end of this village we see this barn. The deep red is so beautiful 🥰
0B6A8291.jpeg

Next to it there is an open area with picnic tables to gather.
0B6A8292.jpeg

We go back to the main streets through this village. We see houses from the early 19th century. The red houses are switched off with light blue now and even some white ones.
0B6A8293.jpeg

0B6A8294.jpegWe see the #sunset 🌇 in the sky. The Christmas 🎄 bell 🔔 stands out against it.

Walking further I look up. I show you this beautiful lantern. Have a closer look.
0B6A8295.jpeg

Did you see the BIRD? It is made either out of metal or wood. A cute details, missed by many 😎
0B6A8296.jpeg

We walk further… the main street through is lovely especially now the sky is turning into soft pinks and yellows.
0B6A8297.jpeg

Even though most was closed, we still enjoyed just wandering around. Especially without crowds like in the summer.
0B6A8298.jpegI so recommend visiting this place during a market or a day everything is open. You find #artisanal shops, museums, restaurants and much more…

A sign showing you where to go next 😊
0B6A8299.jpeg

We see an office…
0B6A8300.jpeg

Looking at the alley it is located in.
0B6A8301.jpeg

Here you can read how this house changed over the centuries.
0B6A8302.jpeg

Another stunning building. With many more century specific decorations next to it. See also the thumbnail/ first photo.
0B6A8305.jpeg

Looking past the alley way. We walk further It is getting darker now in some areas. I capture the sunset again. Little lights on the fence guide you ✨
0B6A8306.jpeg

The house next to us has the following information for you.
0B6A8307.jpeg

Looking back at the little alley.
0B6A8308.jpeg

We go now through some streets in the back. I notice the chairs 🪑
Do you see them?
0B6A8309.jpeg

Looking through the gate…
0B6A8310.jpeg

At the other end of this village / open air museum we find another ground plan of all the buildings and houses.
0B6A8311.jpeg

As we walk out of Wadköping, into the park, we look one more time back and see:
0B6A8312.jpeg

It is such a stunning and unique place to visit. Don’t miss it if you are in the south of Sweden 🇸🇪 We walked today only through a part of it, more for you and me to discover… one day 😊

…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.

Thank you so much for looking, and reading.

I liked that place a lot. The dark red of the buildings were something else… very special.
Great you did too.Thank you so much @steven-patrick 😊

Red paint of Sweden and Finland from copper mines in Sweden, goes back centuries still used and lasts a long, long time. Always enjoyed seeing pastoral life, living museums are popular reminders of how long people have been organized in regions.

Yes the paint goes back a long time. We saw it everywhere driving through Sweden.
Used still nowadays.
Me too, it is wonderful to see places like this and discover how life was back then.

You are welcome, thank you for coming along with me.

Visited an open air village that was exceptionally old far North in Sweden with a chapel where last supper was carved from one log then painted, absolutely stunning.

Many hidden magical places, on walking in the woods noticed painted rocks that scare bad spirits away so we were told.

!PIZZA
!WINEX

That sounds very interesting. Do you know the name of it? Would be lovely to see it.

Lots of places like that. Especially in the woods far north. They hold on to ancient traditions. Wonderful to see.

Have a good evening.

It was on a bus tour, my first out the country with Mom and Sister, sadly I did not document, my Mom would have had itinerary and maps I have very faded photos.

July-August 1973 (cannot even lift the sealed pages for better view), we traveled by coach tour from Southern Sweden north, entered Northern Norway travel back down to south crossed by ferry then back to UK.

July-Aug1973.png
First pic my sister with a lady protecting the forest, second is life size rock and another lady next to a tree. The old village (may be Northern Sweden or Norway time fades the memory), last supper carved into log of wood.

I returned to do it by train in 1978 which I documented here, Mom returned twice more to travel via mail boat (post was still relevant back then) Hurtigruten still sails no longer mail though.

I had good fortune of visiting Gothenburg once again in 2005, part of the world that fascinates....

It sounds like a great trip back in the days. Southern Sweden up to the north and then entering Norway and back down.

I see the last supper in the log well. Wow, a master piece, so well done. Beautiful.
I checked out your train journey. So great to see travels from that time also being documented on hive. To stay forever… such a great idea to go even further back than just a few years.
Thank you so much for showing me.

It is indeed a fascinating part of this world and I hope to explore even more.
Have a wonderful evening 😊

!PIZZAThank you kindly @vaibhavrawat 😊

Love an open air museum, I wonder how they moved the buildings here? Dismantled and then rebuilt them again? 🤔

I'd say you chose a great time to visit, barely any one around, you have the whole place to yourself

Me too, they are great to visit.
I never found out how they were moved. As most of the oldest houses are just constructed with single logs 🪵as walls. I guess dismantled and rebuild. The insides were very basic.

Thanks! The way I like it hahaha 🤣
Have a wonderful day Pauline.

This looks like a toy city @littlebee4! Great how they have shown how live was back then living in these cute little houses. I can imagine it well walking through the streets at that time! Must have been very idyllic. - Thanks for showing us <3

It was such a cool place to wander around. A shame I couldn’t enter all the houses to discover workshops and other great exhibitions. The parts I could enter were so interesting. It gives you a better idea of life back in the days. Even now, with the cold and almost no people around it was idyllic and cute in many ways.
Thanks for coming along on this walk and all your support 🤗

I can imagine. What a great place to be. I prefer "almost no people"—it's always better than too many people 😅. Sorry, I couldn't make it the days before. I am giving my best 😘😘 - Your posts are always worth a visit. You too have a fantastic day Jackie.

Oh it is my favourite way… I always try to avoid people, when I travel I select off season times.
I so don’t like large groups. Too much energies around for me.
No worries 😌 I fully understand. This month is extra busy with the challenge and it being the festive season and and and hahaha
Thank you so much, that’s nice to hear. I try to support more authors right now too in the worldmappin community. So much to read, but sooooo exciting to discover new things.

We got during the night 20 more cm of snow. The front door was snowed in haha had to work this morning to go and get the birds fed. It was deep the snow. All our paths around the cabin are gone ☃️❄️
Thank you Liz, enjoy your Thursday 🤗😘

Haha, same. Always traveling off-season and anti-cyclic. With too many people it gets too crazy. Yeah extra busy but nice to see you still find the time every day for the challenge. You have my full respect Jackie ❤️😎 I am already crossing my fingers for you to win the hoodie :D

Wow, so much snow!! I hope you have enough too. eat and drink inside 😅😅 Enjoy your Friday. Today I finally will post again 😅

We have a bit in common 😊

Aawww thank you so much Liz.
Being snowed in helps too hahaha 🤣 writing each day and supporting others, buzzing around hive does take some time. I look on and off in between things. I get up earlier to write the posts each day 🫣 today was a smaller post as we had to get out early for groceries 🛒

I sooo hope 🤞🏻🤞🏻 it is an awesome hoodie 😁

Be careful when you drive with so much snow and ice! - Glad you liked it. I am already looking forward to your next post.

More like a lot @littlebee4 😎😂 - of course it helps and yes if you are not careful you stay within the Hive all day 😅😅

Houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and still in good shape means well maintained and preserved. But I was wondering how they moved these houses from Orebro Center. I loved the masterplan of the area and good to see how well the area was planned. Reminds me of one of my academic housing design plans. The area seems huge so definitely I would need a map for directions if I were there. Thanks for taking us to this well-preserved traditional village, amazing...

Display of 3 hanging chairs, hmm... I wonder why...

I was astonished to seeing them in such a great state. The red (iron) paint does help a lot in the preservation.
You are the second person that winders how they were moved. I have not been able to find that out, but looking at the oldest houses. They were constructed with single logs 🪵 stacked. So I guess they deconstructed them carefully and rebuild them.
The ground plan was great to see as we lost track of where we were and had been, going into little courtyards exploring the alleys. Cool it reminded you of your academic plan. Looks like we have more in common. I was a architectural draftsman (woman) 🤓

It was a very large area, easily to explore in a day though.
I am happy you came along and I could show you this unique village.

Hanging chairs are very common in the shaker designs, inside though. Maybe this is a typical Swedish thing too?

So I guess they deconstructed them carefully and rebuild them.

Applaud for the workmanship, they achieved what needed to be achieved. Such kinds of housing projects are amazing and truly hold history. Not only did they achieve the preservation of houses but they were also able to showcase the culture and lifestyle of the 17th and 18th centuries. They were farmer's houses, right?

Hanging chairs are very common in the shaker designs, inside though. Maybe this is a typical Swedish thing too?

I think it's part of Swedish culture and architecture. It's not common in other countries...I did some research and saw that it's a very common thing is Sweden to maximize the floor and circulation space, especially in the dining area. Interesting, I didn't have this information...😋

I was a architectural draftsman (woman)

We have a lot of things in common and to talk about...

Yes, they did achieve all of that.
No that is the funny thing. These were houses inside the city… or rather large village.

I have seen it in New England in the USA too. The chairs 🪑 very interesting.

It does look that way. Cool 😎
Have a wonderful Thursday
