Shall we continue our road trip today? Yes 🫣 I know, you are all asking where I am now. No no, I can’t tell yet… So let’s continue writing about this road trip / my last COUNTRY MOVE. This is part 9 what brings us SLOWLY from NYLAND TO TREHÖRNINGSJÖ, Västernorrland County in Sweden 🇸🇪
☃️❄️This journey we will see more #SNOW and #ICE (yes, it is possible hahaha) more #mountains, #landscapes, and lots of snowy and icy #roads.
This part brings us a little bit closer to my final destination I am headed for… the COUNTRY I MOVED TO 😎

The Photographs in this post are all taken with my iPhone by me and some parts by hubby📱🤓when I was driving through the most snowy and icy parts 🚘
The first half of the journey… hubby is driving 😎 so I can take the photos.

With the snow and ice and a short lunch break in Örnsköldsvik we almost tripled the 2 hours. We left just before 11 o’clock and arrived around 16:15h at our next Airbnb.

We left our last AWESOME AIRBNB and said goodbye to the cutest cat on earth, if you remember 🥰
The inland roads have been scraped and gravel was put on top…
As we drive… I saw prints / evidence in the deep snow that a moose 🫎 or large reindeer jumped over the fence and walked further through the deep snow. Do you see it too?
We are driving towards some bigger main roads.
We see some abandoned houses next to the road. You can tell easily in the winter there is nobody living…
The views are stunning around us. The mountains in the distance.
The wind is picking up and blows the light snowflakes over the road in beautiful pattern 🌬️🌬️🌬️❄️❄️❄️
We pass by a church ⛪️
More wind and snowy patterns…
The sign guides us in the direction of Örnsköldsvik it is half way and our lunch stop. 71 km… vroom vroom
We see little hamlets with just a few houses and church buildings.
We are still driving inland here, the roads get more snowy and icy… we drive carefully.
Some parts are not snow ploughed as you can see on the left. 👇🏻
We are finally reaching a main road closer to the coast. It is 11:23h here.
Passing by icy rocks…
What is this? The trucks are stopped…
We drive a bit further and stop our car 🚗
The truck in front of us is fully covered in snow… you can not read anything on the back of this truck 🫣
Behind us more trucks and cars arrive…
It took just over half an hour for us to start driving again… we drove past all the trucks on the 2 lane main road 🛣️ and turned back on a crossing in the opposite direction. They didn’t seem to move for a long time in the direction we wanted to go.
We decided to drive inland around the traffic jam. It was just to cold to stand still and to keep the motor running. Luckily we are on the road again 😁 with a detour a la Jackie 😎
I photograph some houses next to us through the trees.

Some lakes on the left. Today is a grey day so not much colour to see… I still like the far views 😊
We enter Sollefteå municipality…
We go right here to the city. 66km to go for lunch. It is 12:35 already… I think it will be a late lunch 🥗
Smaller roads mean more ice 🧊
It looks like we see no cars anywhere. Just us and the road with a vast nature around us.
We enter Örnsköldsvik municipality 😃 getting closer…
I see a funny tree next to us… hahaha it is covered with wheel covers. A nice selection don’t you think.
28 more km to lunch…
Some beautiful farms up the hillside.
Lovely yellow typical Swedish house.
This is such a beautiful house 🏡 love the balcony.
Still following the small inland roads.
At the crossing we turn right again 🙂 it was a bit slippery here… 🥶
As we get closer to a bigger city we see more houses appear 🏡

And a narrow road going up and down. Almost looks like a rollercoaster 🎢 hahaha
We see farm animals next to us.
Beautiful houses 🏡 they stick out so much now with the snow ⛄️ I like the light blue colour.
Some ponies next to a tree as the wind is still rather strong today.
Not far now…
As we drive into Örnsköldsvik city we see some stunning #architecture, like this #monumental church ⛪️

We parked at 13:45h and had some lunch and a much needed coffee ☕️
I crawled behind the steering wheel at 15:00h to drive the last half of this journey… here we drive out of the city.
My visibility is dropping with the second 😣

It is very hard to drive now. The windscreen wipers are working fast….
My second favourite photo of the day. 👇🏻 We are driving very slow now. As the snow that is thrown up by cars in front of us makes the visibility low.
Hubby is doing his best to try to capture how bad the road conditions are… luckily I am driving. He so doesn’t like it or even driving in the snow. I… 😎 YEP I LOVE IT 🥰
Finally we see the first sign with our destination for today. 31 km left to Trehörningsjö 😀
The weather seems to have calmed down 🤓
It is much nicer to drive over the snowy and icy roads now the visibility is good again.

Driving on a layer of snow is so much fun. Much better than icy roads. So I can speed up a bit. It is already 15:41h here.

We reached the little village of Trehörningsjö in Västernorrland Country.
Our Airbnb for the next 3 nights 🤩 what a beauty. We have the ground floor apartment.

This Airbnb / accommodation is run by a Dutch couple.
We had a great few days there. I recommend checking out their place if you would find yourself in the area.
They restored the house so lovingly 🥰

Sunset was early… here it was 1700h and our view out. Stunning location.
So let’s look at how far we have driven in part 9.
The km meter says now : 129.885km, we stopped at 129.636km in the last part. But… we have driven around at the accommodation. So I deduct that.
What means we have driven about 200 km along the road🚗
Adding the last total we get : 3,925 km in 11 days of traveling 😉

Gosh, what an introduction to your new home. Now I'm super sorr if I've missed it, I'm a bit tired as I read through your posts, but why the move?

I am still writing all the parts of the trip to my new home.
This was part 9, I am so behind with sharing it. Will finish the posts from the move this month for sure.
3 more steps, to go to reach the final destination… 😊
Hubby didn’t find a job since we had to leave the UK (when they refused my residency even though hubby is British) so we ended up in Ireland we could life without much trouble residency wise. Now 1,5 years later… still no job for hubby. So we moved last February to where we are now as we couldn’t manage to rent / live in Ireland. Without him having a job. Here we manage with my income alone.
For now… hubby is still looking for jobs, literally everywhere… 600 + applications later… a few close calls… still nothing, there are just to many people searching for a job. The employers can pick somebody that thicks all boxes. Apparently 16+ years experience doesn’t count anymore. Remkte isn’t remote anymore, most jobs are hybrid now. So if he would find a job… it could mean another move again 🫣
noooo…. and I so wanted to settle. This isn’t it unfortunately, I know and hubby does know. So a bit stressy lately. We will manage though 😊

It is… the only thing we can do right now is staying positive.
Yep, that stupid Brexit thing. It caused a lot of damage in many ways, people just didn’t see it before they voted.
Me being Dutch (EU) didn’t matter either.
One of those things… right. We keep going.
I did LOVE living in Scotland, I would have stayed forever I think.

This truly look a place for reindeers but sweden in winter must have really crazy location, your pictures looks like a scenography of a northern dark thriller! I love that kind of snowy landscapes!
It can get crazy in the winter as I had experienced.
We even saw some reindeer and moose 🫎

It was a challenging drive for sure. We took our time for it.
Good, keep warm. I just went out for some groceries. The temperature in the car measured -17,5 degrees Celsius what is 0,5 fahrenheit 😳 crazy…
