The issue about renaming the beach is a pity. I don't know anything about the history of the island and whilst it was wrong to whitewash the indigenous people, Columbus landing on the beach is a fact. The two sound like separate issues so it seems rather odd to cancel Columbus because of someone else's action...

Unfortunately this sort of woke cancel culture has spread to Trinidad. Even though Columbus was supposedly involved directly with the indigenous enslavement, trying to bury faces in the sand or change history does more harm than good.
