Believe me, you won't even notice you're still in Taguig once you get there—with its stunning canal, Venetian-inspired architecture, and picture-perfect environment. I'd dare say that it is one of the most picturesque destinations inside a mall here in the Philippines. I remember a funny saying that goes something like," If you can't come to Italy, let Italy come to you." Armed with just my camera and a sense of wanderlust, I asked my cousin during my visit to Metro Manila that we should set out to explore this dreamy destination, and today, I am very thrilled to share what my eyes saw through the lenses of my phone's camera.
Although this is a mall, the core of the Venice Grand Canal Mall is, obviously, without a doubt, its grand canal, which looks like it's taken out of a brochure featuring Venice, Italy. This place looks like the iconic canals of the West, including its flowing water and gondolas (boats) floating by. However, what makes this canal special isn't just the water itself but how it integrates with the surrounding architecture. Each side of the canal is lined with European-inspired buildings that look like they were plucked straight out of a postcard or from my phone's screen, as I always see buildings like this on my newsfeed, and I'm a huge fan. Pastel yellows, beige, and blues, and a tint of greens (okay, self-claimed artist here, but I still don't know my colors) reflect on the water, creating a mesmerizing palette that changes with the time of day.
Even if you don't ride a gondola -- which I didn't, but it costs around Php 350 (6.04 USD) – 500 (8.64 USD) per head for a 10–15-minute ride (that's just my estimation though)-- simply walking along the canal is an experience in itself that will trick you that you've escaped from the hustle of city life and make you think you're really on vacation abroad.
Architecture
As I mentioned, what truly sets the Venice Grand Canal Mall apart from other spots and malls that I've been to in the Philippines (considering we have a lot of malls here in the country) is its architecture. Designed to mimic Venice's iconic cityscape, the mall is seriously a feast to the eyes. The exteriors of the buildings are so detailed that they also have ornate balconies, arched windows, and vibrant colors that give them a classic European charm. Now, I have yet to go to Venice, Italy, or any European country. Still, this place definitely passes the vibe check. And I can't still believe that this is a shopping mall.
Everywhere I turn, there's something to marvel at. Even the little touches, like the lantern-style light fixtures and cobblestone-inspired walkways, and the brigde-- such a headturner-- will transport you to another world, or rather country. As someone who is quite fond of historical fiction set in European ambiance, I really loved how the atmosphere is very immersive—it's easy to forget you're in the middle of Taguig.
Cinematic Value
The mall is so picturesque that I was captivated by its beauty. I snapped photos of it because it is very Instagram-worthy. If you're into photography, filming, or love collecting beautiful shots for your social media or blogs, then this place is a goldmine, I tell you!
However, since it's also a mall and a tourist attraction, photobombers are inevitable. Here are some (un)helpful tips I picked up for taking photos:
- Visit during off-peak hours, such as morning (right after the mall opens) and late evenings (just before closing), when most people haven't arrived yet, or during weekdays (it's not guaranteed that there'll be no crowd, but at least it's manageable).
- You can scout less-traveled areas or corners of the mall, and since the architecture and ambiance extend to the entirety of the canal, it's even better.
- Go for close-ups and focus shots, or crop out someone unwanted included in the photo, hahaha
- If a gondola is entering your shot, use it creatively and shoot your shot! (Because, unfortunately, I didn't)
It's Kind of Romantic on its Own
It could be because of the media I consume, but I always thought that there was something undeniably romantic about European places. Hence, I can't help but feel the same at this inspired place. Whether it's the gondolas, the water, or the architecture that makes the atmosphere tug at my heartstrings, I'd really like to think that I'm not the only one who feels that way since this is a bustling tourist destination as far as I know.
Even a solo traveler couldn't help but feel the romantic, dreamy vibe it exudes. It's the perfect spot for couples looking for a romantic escape within the city and families and friends who would like to experience the tranquil and beautiful environment it offers. Also, you won't have to worry about food since it's a mall; there are a lot of restaurants that add to the European and Italian experience when you visit there!
Now, I might not see you, but one of your eyebrows might be raising now, wondering if "Is it really worth it to visit a place that's inspired by Venice instead of going to the real thing?" My answer to that? A very loud yes! The Venice Grand Canal Mall is a destination that offers its own kind of magic (even though it might be just an imitation, the vibe is undoubtedly great). It's a place where you can immerse yourself in beauty and take stunning photos. Whether you're here for a casual stroll, a photo session, or drop by to soak in the ambiance (like me) and continue with your shopping, trust me—you'll leave with memories that feel like a European getaway--- even if your initial plan was to get your groceries. And it's FREE! (because it's a shopping mall.)
So, Hivers! That's it. My experience at the Venice Grand Canal Mall was truly one for the books (or blogs, hahaha). As someone who has a near-zero possibility of traveling abroad at the moment, I really find the place and the experience attractive and super great.
Until next time, keep wondering, wandering and discovering!

As an Italian, Venice was breath-taking when I was there the first time. One of the most suggestive cities I've ever seen, despite the touristic abuse - unavoidable in these times - is going to change it forever.
I think it's nice to see that someone is trying to evoke that magic atmosphere in other parts of the world. Like every other form of art, it belongs to all of us 🙂
Hugs from Sardinia!
Thanks for sharing! Venice really is magical, and I can only imagine how breathtaking it must be to experience the real thing with all its history and charm. I agree that places like this mall are a lovely way to share that magic with the world, especially for those of us who find traveling abroad a bit of a challenge.
Sardinia is beautiful place too—sending hugs back! 😊

Definitely a worthy visit in the future!!
I visited this place 5 years ago, and I think there are a lot of changes since then. I am hoping that i can visit this place again very soon 🤗
This was actually taken years ago (pre-pandemic) during my vacation in NCR🤭, and I also bet that there are a lot of changes since it's been quite a while. I'm also hoping that I can revisit this mall again and once again witness its beauty. 🤩
