Linux Day is an Italian non-profit event, aimed at promoting the use of free software and GNU / Linux, which is held annually every fourth Saturday in October and consists of a series of contemporary events organized in various Italian cities.
In 2020, due to the pandemic, it was carried out for the first time in a totally virtual way, but in previous editions, it has always managed to gather a good number of participants from all over the world.
During my long stay in Italy, I have participated in practically all the events traveling through Italy from north to south and from east to west.
In 2015 the Linux Day edition was held in Trapani.
And there I was with my illusions to know a very beautiful city and to learn more about Linux, free software and Tux, its mascot that, on the other hand, I have adopted as the name of this blog.
The agenda was quite complete and the situation of free software in Italy and in the world, Linux applications for cell phones, new versions of the kernel, LibreOffice, Linux in public administration and other topics of interest directly related to the penguin were analyzed.
Once the meeting was over I dedicated myself to visiting the city of Trapani. And here are some images of the main sites to visit.

1.- The Historic Center. / El Centro Histórico.
As in all of Italy and most of the European cities, the historical centers show the origin of each place. Something like the place where the founding stone of the future city was located.
For this reason, they are not only well preserved but also contain buildings, monuments and historical relics of remarkable value.
And Trapani is no exception to the rule.
Trapani is not a very big city and therefore its historic center can easily be explored on foot.
It does not have buildings or monuments of particular value but a short walk through its narrow streets will be a very pleasant experience.
2.- San Lorenzo Cathedral. / Catedral de San Lorenzo.
A visit to this beautiful church is mandatory, which offers numerous elements of reflection and beauty.
Starting with the valuable painting of the Crucifixion by Vandik and the nativity attributed to Caravaggio
Its origin dates back to the 14th century.
The Cathedral, an excellent example of the Sicilian Baroque style with rich works of art inside.
A detail that distinguishes it from the other cathedrals I have visited is the absence of a square in front of it, since the building is on the main street of the historic center of the city, which makes the exterior view a bit anonymous.
3.- The Tower of Ligny. / La Torre de Ligny.
The Tower of Ligny is an ancient coastal tower located at the western end of Trapani, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Sicilian Channel.
It was erected at the end of the 16th century to control and above all to watch the predatory incursions of the Barbary Pirates (a term that Europeans used from the 16th to the 19th centuries to refer to the coastal regions of Morocco).
The tower allows you to see the city in 360 degrees. A panoramic show. The tower houses the museum of the sea, a small museum with archaeological finds found on the seabed in the area.
