In idyllic December 2022, after an exciting exploration of Kao Sok National Park, we embarked on the next leg of our journey: the enchanting island of Ko Lanta. Our arrival on this paradisiacal island was surrounded by an aura of anticipation and excitement, as we had booked ourselves in advance onto the Blue Andaman Resort, where unforgettable days of adventure and relaxation awaited us.
Getting to the island was smooth and pleasant thanks to a private transfer that took us comfortably and safely to our hotel. The Blue Andaman Resort welcomed us with open arms and immediately won us over with its charming ambience and the warm hospitality of the staff.
After settling into our cosy rooms, we wanted to explore the nearby surroundings and get a first impression of Ko Lanta. Right next to our resort, we discovered an inviting bar with shady loungers and refreshing drinks that literally invited us to put our feet up and let the day slowly fade away. Our choice was a refreshing Cuba Libre, which was perfectly mixed.
The evening progressed and we decided to explore the local nightlife further. We stumbled upon a pool table in an entertaining setting called The Sound Shack Bar Koh Lanta. Music, laughter and the company of like-minded people made us feel immediately at ease. But the state of the pool table was more reminiscent of a fun challenge than a professional gaming experience. Its surface seemed to tell so many stories, of past games and adventurous moments. The waves and wrinkles on the cloth gave the table character and uniqueness - a unique piece among pool tables that made us smile.
Our decision to indulge in the game was not slowed down by the table's ramshackle appearance. We agreed that it was not the appearance that mattered, but the playing experience and the shared laughs. So we took up the challenge and began to skillfully poke the balls over the undulating green. Each tee shot was an adventure in itself, as the white ball often took unexpected paths on its unpredictable journey. Particularly memorable was the audacious shot that sent the white ball hurtling towards the glass pane behind the table - a moment of suspense followed by boisterous laughter as the ball remained unscathed.
The hilarious moments culminated in a spirited shot that catapulted the cue ball off the table and landed on the adjacent table - an unintentional feat that ended in a clang when a dainty porcelain bowl could not withstand the impact. This unexpected incident almost brought us to tears with laughter and only enhanced our enjoyment of this unconventional billiards adventure.
It is exactly this unexpected liveliness that makes travelling to Thailand so captivating and unforgettable. The experience with the curious billiard table was only a small part of our varied journey, which provided us with surprises and unpredictable encounters again and again. Our days on Ko Lanta were peppered with such moments of laughter, wonder and curiosity that made this island a place of magic.
In the following days, we decided to seek our luck on another pool table - a place that promised us a more professional and smooth playing experience. And so we continued our journey of discovery on Ko Lanta, ready to experience new stories and collect even more unforgettable moments.

He used to compete in a lot of amateur pool tournaments and this indeed did bring a smile to his face. That is one for the books, and yet you were able to have great time.

can confirm it is probably the worst, i seen some rough pool tables, never seen one with wrinkles 🤣
