Ortler - Our way to Payerhütte (Day 1)

in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

Hi,

I would like to share with you my story about the best trip of this summer - ascent to Ortler - the highest mountain of South Tyrol with its peak in 3905 metres.

We started in a town called Solda in Italy and to overcome some elevation and to have a fresh start, we took a lift up to 2610 metres.

All the way up, we were admiring the peak which seemed to be in an unachievable distance for us.

When we got off the lift, we were amazed by plenty of wonderful views of the Alps.

Our target for that afternoon was to reach Payerhütte which was at 3029 metres above sea.

We were walking through rubble fields, having Ortler peak still next to us. It still looked so far far away.

At some point, we were passing the northern wall of Ortler which is thanks to its inclination almost impassable even with a good equipment and skills.

Everywhere, there were lots of sheep pasturing the Alpine grass.

And after some kilometers, we got a view of Tabarettahütte which was our first stop.

From this place, when we looked up, we saw a really tiny spot on the top of the highest rock and that was our target - Payerhütte.

To get there, there were still some hundreds of altitude meters waiting for us. We were admiring wonderful Alpine sceneries.

And also Alpine flora.

It took us about 2 hours from the lift top station to get to Payerhütte. Finally, we were there, enjoying the view of Ortler...

... and also of the other mountains which were everywhere around us.

As we stayed there overnight to avoid the altitude sickness as much as possible, we could enjoy also sunset which was really amazing.

After the sunset, we went to bed, exciting about our next day and the ascent itself.
