Hello friend, today I will introduce you to the town of Grottammare in the province of Ascoli Piceno, we are the southernmost part of the Marche region, a few kilometers from the border with the Abruzzo region, in an area called Riviera delle Palme for its beautiful beaches, very expensive and welcoming seafront. Grottammare in 2021 was ranked fifth as the most beautiful village in Italy, receiving the renowned orange flag together with the blue flag which is the award for the most beautiful and welcoming seaside resorts ...
Let's leave immediately !!!
I drive south on the motorway from Ancona to the "Grottammare" exit and, thanks to the navigator, I reach the highest part of the town where there are the remains of the ancient castle and balconies to enjoy wonderful views.
I leave my car right at the entrance of the ancient fortified walls, through the ancient entrance door and start visiting the highest part of the town on foot, climbing ancient streets among the ancient houses, what a beauty !!!
Climbed to the highest point I find myself in a beautiful pine forest where I explore the remains of the castle and take some photos, the pine forest and the typically Mediterranean vegetation frames this place of peace.
Already walking through the streets you will encounter different views
But behind the walls of the castle there is a dedicated area with a large terrace to enjoy a spectacular view, from up there you can see all the rest of the city that remains below, the beautiful sea up to the renowned city of San Benedetto Del Tronto , how nice friends I recommend it, I felt sorry to leave that view but my tour had to continue !!
I start to go down and the gaze is lost between the blue of the sea and the beauty of the country.
I continue further down where the alleys are still narrow because they are very old, they are wonderfully cared for by the locals, the houses are one more beautiful than the other.
Going down again and after a few steps and alleys I arrive at the beautiful main square of the ancient village called Piazza Peretti, it houses an ancient church where the caretaker with his white Ford Ka is busy preparing for mass, some grocery stores, restaurants, aperitifs, bars and the beautiful Orange Theater… what a beautiful building, with its clock tower and its unique arched structure where you must necessarily look out if you come to this town, the view is magical !!
After spending some time there and talking a bit with some tourists from northern Italy, I continue along one of the streets that lead out of the square and arrive in the parking area which is located in the middle of the town, from here you can see it from below. the oldest part above you can find the entrances to the most scenic restaurants in the area, everything is very tidy here and the plants and flowers play their part making everything even more beautiful.
I recommend this area if you want to eat something with a unique view even if it is not the only beautiful area ... follow me !!!
I continue to visit this area before going down again because I see that there are ancient walls with a staircase and I start walking and I discover the ancient wash houses ... how beautiful this city never ceases to amaze you !!! Some houses enjoy a beautiful view and have equally beautiful gardens.
As often happens during the tours in these villages it happens to have the company of cute kittens, how nice !!
Attracted by some structures that I want to see, I continue to go down a little while visiting another part made up of ancient structures such as churches and historic walls but I will not get to the sea which is a few hundred meters away because from there I see another area of the country a little higher than I want to visit ... I see a beautiful and ancient tower so I go up in that direction also because the sea area has already happened to me to visit it in the summer and today I'm here to see the rest of the village ... let's go !!
I keep walking, I start to climb arriving at another ancient medieval entrance door which is part of the ancient walls called "Porta Marina", how wonderful, a few meters later I find myself in another dream balcony ... it's mid-morning and the restaurant opens to prepare to welcome those who want to eat there, those who want to eat while looking at the sea and enjoying a still very good temperature despite being November, people are back and forth to enjoy this wonder, SPECTACULAR !!!
On the side of the terrace, you can climb a few steps to the top of an ancient tower which also houses a museum dedicated to it. From the top of the tower you can have a spectacular view from here too, thinking about it it was built specifically to see well, what a sight even here friends and how many surprises !!!
After climbing on it to take some photos and then go down and continue through the beautiful alleys that host many Bed & Breakfasts created in the ancient renovated houses of the village ...
My friends the tour is not very long but it took me almost three hours to do it because I was always enchanted to admire the thousand beautiful things of the country, now I walk uphill alleys to get back to my car. For today the tour is over, it was a wonderful experience to see this village, I recommend it if you pass in the area but even if you are not in the area ... it deserves a tour you will not regret it !!!!
