What makes them Special? Chocolate Hills in Bohol

in Worldmappin7 days ago (edited)

Hello, my Hivers friends! Again, this is part 2 of my trip to Bohol last year. When I was a kid my dream was to see these hills personally because I always see them in books, television, and pictures only. And even if I want to go I do not have the time and I do not have the money and no guts to go to this place. But finally, I've decided to be happy, leave the busy corporate world for a while, and enjoy myself with my family and friends. I treasure this trip because we had so much fun and enjoyed the trip even if we were there for only 2 days we still had most of the time.

Now, let us answer the question of why the Chocolate Hills is special. Let us ask for help from Wikipedia.

According to Wikipedia, The Chocolate Hills are a geological formation in Bohol province, Philippines. There are at least 1,260 hills (and maybe more) spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometers (20 sqm mi).

And why do they call it "Chocolate Hills"?
They are covered in green grass that turns brown (LIKE CHOCOLATE) during the DRY SEASON, hence the name.

What is the myth of the Chocolate Hills?
One local legend says the hills are the aftermath of a fight between two giants who spent days hurling stones at each other before finally giving up.
Another idea states that the hills are the tears of a giant grieving the death of a mortal woman he had fallen in love with.

This is a popular tourist destination and a major tourist attraction in the Philippines. They are special because they have a unique appearance just like a cone and they all have I think the same size.

At this moment the Chocolate Hills are green they have not yet turned brown. We get the chance to pose everywhere to these stunning views because this is proof that we went there and nothing can stop us.

There are 214 steps to the Observation Deck in the Chocolate Hills Complex to see the panoramic view of the hills. If you are not likely to walk a steep hill like this you will catch your breath when you reach the top.

This is Bohol's pride "Peanut Kisses" and one of the favorite delicacies in Bohol it tastes very yummy and delicious you cannot get enough of it. The ingredients of course peanuts, sugar, and egg whites! You have to buy these and a treat to your friends and neighbors. This have become a a symbol of Bohol representing the island's culinary heritage.

After our quick Chocolate Hills tour, we saw the tarsier!

You cannot use a flash when taking a picture because they are susceptible. As far as I can remember one of the staff of sanctuaries took this photo using my phone. Tarsier is a small, nocturnal primate that is endemic to the Philippines. They are tiny and have big eyes, long fingers, and toes. They are primarily active at night to hunt insects for food. In Bohol, they take good care of these animals they preserve and make sure they are not abused. Tarsier is threatened by habitat loss and others used them as pets. Conservation efforts for these tiny animals are underway to protect these unique primates and their habitat.

This is Bohol's lush forest and according to the local vendor it was planted around 30 years ago and this is a man-made forest. We only stopped by for 10 minutes and we drove off because we were beating the time and we had to be fast because we had to go to Barangay Loboc for a lunch buffet at the famous Loboc River Cruise.

Welcome to Loboc you can have a lunch buffet while cruising down the river. The buffest lunch offers a taste of authentic Filipino cuisine. You will enjoy the live entertainment of Bohol local singers that serenades guests during the cruise.

This is one of my favorite memories.

To wrap up our quick tour we dropped by the historic old Baclayon Bohol Church located in Baclayon, Bohol. The church was constructed dating back to the 16th century. It was built with coral stones showcasing the resourcefulness of the early builders. Its Architectural Style is a blend of Baroque and Neoclassical architectural elements

The Baclayon Church is declared as National Cultural Treasure and Natural Historic Landmark.
Originally it was named "La Purisima de la Virgen Parish" was founded by Jesuits in 1596, only a few decades after Spanish conquistadors arrived. (taken from Guide to the Philippines)
