Hallo liebe Community,
auf unserem Tischtennis Wochenende wollten wir uns natürlich auch einen Besuch auf der Burg Grenzau nicht entgehen lassen. Und so machten wir am Abreisetag vor dem Mittagessen noch eine kleine Wanderung durch den Ort und hinauf zur alten Burgruine. Ein Besuch der Burg Grenzau ist eine Reise in die Vergangenheit und bietet ein unvergessliches Erlebnis für Geschichtsinteressierte und Naturliebhaber gleichermaßen. Schon auf dem Weg hoch zur Burg konnten wir das alte Fachwerk-Rathaus und eine wunderschöne kleine Kirche bewundern.
Schon als wir uns der Burg näherten, wurden wir von der imposanten Ruine auf ihrem Felsvorsprung beeindruckt. Der Weg führt durch einen malerischen Wald und bietet schon unterwegs schöne Ausblicke auf das Tal. Die Burg Grenzau ist besonders bekannt für ihren einzigartigen, dreieckigen Bergfried. Dieser mächtige Turm ist eines der wenigen erhaltenen Exemplare dieser Bauart in Deutschland. Bei einer Besichtigung kann man die mächtigen Mauern und die engen Gänge erkunden und sich vorstellen, wie das Leben auf der Burg im Mittelalter ausgesehen haben mag.
Und für 2 Euro Eintritt ließen wir uns das natürlich nicht nehmen. Die nette ältere Dame die am Eingang den Eintritt entgegen nimmt, wohnt zusammen mit ihrem Mann sogar in der Burg. Zu sehen, beim Blick von oben ( die Scheiben im alten Torbau ).
Von der Burgmauer und dem Turm aus hat man einen atemberaubenden Panoramablick über das Brexbachtal und die umliegende Landschaft. Bei klarer Sicht reicht der Blick bis weit in den Westerwald hinein. Das war schon ein Erlebnis nach dem mühsamen Aufstieg durch das enge Treppenhaus des Bergfrieds, bei dem man ständig aufpassen musste, sich nicht den Kopf anzuschlagen. Aber der Ausblick bei herrlichem Wetter entschädigte für alles oder was meint Ihr? Der Hammer.
Selbstverständlich erfuhren wir auch etwas über die Geschichte der Burg. Die Burg wurde im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut und diente den Grafen von Isenburg-Grenzau als Sitz. Sie war eine wichtige Festung und spielte eine Rolle in zahlreichen kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen. Heute zeugen die erhaltenen Mauern und der Bergfried von der einstigen Bedeutung der Burg. Ein Besuch der Burg eignet sich aber auch für die ganze Familie. Für Kinder gibt es viel zu entdecken und die Geschichte der Burg lässt sich auch für junge Besucher anschaulich vermitteln. Es gibt oft auch spezielle Angebote für Familien und Gruppen.
Ein Besuch der Burg Grenzau ist ein Ausflug in die Vergangenheit und eine Gelegenheit, die Schönheit des Westerwalds zu erleben. Die Kombination aus Geschichte, Natur und Kultur macht die Burg zu einem beliebten Ausflugsziel für Touristen und auch Einheimische. Wir waren zumindest begeistert und kommen sicher nächstes Jahr wieder.

on our table tennis weekend we of course didn't want to miss out on a visit to Grenzau Castle. And so on the day of departure before lunch we went on a short hike through the town and up to the old castle ruins. A visit to Grenzau Castle is a journey into the past and offers an unforgettable experience for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Even on the way up to the castle we were able to admire the old half-timbered town hall and a beautiful little church.
As we approached the castle we were impressed by the imposing ruins on its rocky outcrop. The path leads through a picturesque forest and offers beautiful views of the valley along the way. Grenzau Castle is particularly known for its unique, triangular keep. This mighty tower is one of the few surviving examples of this type of construction in Germany. During a tour you can explore the mighty walls and narrow corridors and imagine what life in the castle might have been like in the Middle Ages.
And of course we couldn't pass up that for 2 euros admission. The nice older lady who accepts admission at the entrance even lives in the castle with her husband. You can see this when looking from above (the windows in the old gatehouse).
From the castle wall and the tower you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Brexbach valley and the surrounding landscape. On a clear day, the view extends far into the Westerwald. That was quite an experience after the arduous climb up the narrow staircase of the keep, where you had to be careful not to hit your head. But the view in the wonderful weather made up for everything, don't you think? It was amazing.
Of course, we also learned something about the history of the castle. The castle was built in the 13th century and served as the seat of the Counts of Isenburg-Grenzau. It was an important fortress and played a role in numerous military conflicts. Today, the preserved walls and the keep bear witness to the castle's former importance. A visit to the castle is also suitable for the whole family. There is a lot for children to discover and the history of the castle can also be clearly conveyed to young visitors. There are often special offers for families and groups.
A visit to Grenzau Castle is a trip into the past and an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Westerwald. The combination of history, nature and culture makes the castle a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. We were thrilled and will definitely be back next year.
