Tugu railway station is one of the oldest stations in Indonesia and the biggest in Yogyakarta. This train station has been operating since around early 19th century. In this train station, travelers will often find some memorabilia and some old photographs of the railway station development. Not only that, this station has cool amenities compared to many major train stations in Indonesia.

This train station is also iconic. The interior and exterior are attempting to reflect some symbolism and the atmosphere of the city. For instance the fences in this station which has batik floral pattern and so are the murals surrounding the complex.

This station serves premium to executive train class. For economy class, there are other smaller station just 20 minutes ride from this railway station. The amenities in this station includes coworking space, restaurants, gift shops, and plenty others.

A must visit place inside this train station would be a restaurant called LOKO Restaurant. The restaurant serves western and Indonesian menu at affordable price. So, while waiting for the train, this place is the best place to wait and work before onboarding inside the train.

This restaurant has pictures of the railway station during its early days and also some testimonial from important people in the country. The interior is filled with plenty vintage ornaments. The place is also equipped with sockets. However, this place doesn't have a toilet. So, you have to go to the main toilet if you need to use it.

Back in the day when Indonesia capital was still in Yogyakarta, this train station also serves as presidential train stop. So, it was very much influential in the country. While the surrounding undergoes some changes, the management tried to kept the interior with vintage themed.

Another beautiful thing about this train station is the sunset view. Though yes, some of its view are blocked by hotels and buildings surrounding it.

I stayed around this area for more than 4 hours while waiting my check-in time. While waiting, I also visited a cafe nearby to do some mundane work. The cafe was undergoing renovation so I couldn't get to sit properly but it was a nice little corner with vintage feels to it. Sadly, I lost the picture of that little corner.
