Hello, dear Hivers, welcome to a new blog featuring one of the historic and beautiful landmarks of Cebu, the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño. Come and join me in uncovering the serene and unruffled repose of calmness and quietude at Cebu's Basilica, with its main entrance located at Osmeña Boulevard.

The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is one of the oldest extant bastions of religious faith in Cebu. It holds a significant contribution to the lives of each and every Cebuano; it is now also a major tourist destination in the city as it highlights a mix of Romanesque, an architectural style that emerged in Europe in the 10th to 12th century, and Gothic style of architecture, which also emerged in Europe during the 12th to 16th century.

Moreover, the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is one of the prominent churches in the Philippines, located in the heart of Cebu. It is referred to as one of the oldest churches in the Philippines and one of the important churches that hold significance to the Cebuano people.

History

The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño was built in 1565 by a Spanish missionary, Father Andres Urdaneta. The original structure was made of wood and thatched roof, but the church was burned down in 1620. A new church made of stone was constructed during 1926–1946; the church eventually expanded, underwent restoration, and suffered from earthquakes; then another restoration effort was made after World War II, until it was declared a Minor Basilica in 1965 by Pope Paul VI.

It was indeed a beautiful thing to know the history of our local landmarks as they contributed to the development of our current society. History always reminds us of where we came from; it offers us a glimpse of why history should not be forgotten; history teaches us to look back on the past no matter how hard it was as it molds us to be where we are right now. It teaches us lessons on what things we should not repeat in the near future. It costs no cent to remember the past; let's learn not to forget, and most especially, learn from our mistakes and learn not to repeat them.

How do I get there?

Overall, my experience in visiting the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is an amazing thing as I both strengthen my faith and learn about the past. If you are planning to visit the place you can ride a jeep from SM Cebu, just ask the barkers of which jeep has the route going to Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, and in just a matter of 10-15 minutes, you can reach the place. What are you waiting for? Plan your visit now.

That's all for today, Hivers. I hope you've enjoyed reading my blog. Help me reach a bigger audience by upvoting, commenting, and reblogging. Have a great day ahead, everyone. See you in my next blog. Bye bye! 👋💗🌷✨
