Hello friends of hive my name is Mariany and this time I will tell you my experience in Medellin Colombia, this was my first time traveling outside my country (it was not very far because it was what my budget could afford) I live in San Cristobal the capital of Tachira state, a border state about 45 minutes / 1 hour north of Santander Colombia to be more specific the city of Cucuta where I would take a flight with a stopover in the Colombian capital Bogotá and then a flight to my destination, Medellín.
To put you in context my city is somewhat small, I think the name of city is more of a formality, upon arriving in Medellin I was impressed to see a city so big and so dynamic, something like when donkey is coming to very very far away in the movie sherk 2 to give you an idea of my excitement.
I made this trip with my best friend to celebrate my 22nd birthday, we were staying in a neighborhood called "Bello" where another friend of ours who lives there since 2018 would receive us to spend a few days in the city, we arrived around 10 pm to get cleaned up and rest.
The first day we went to the "Explora park" which was right in front of the "universidad" subway station and to the botanical garden of Medellin "Joaquin Antonio Uribe" which was also very close.
First we went to the Botanical Garden of Medellin Joaquin Antonio Uribe which has about 13 hectares has a high diversity of flora and fauna, has many passages adorned with different types of plants, accompanied by different insects like butterflies bees beetles and more also has an event area called Orquideoma which unfortunately I could not visit because it was in maintenance, admission to the garden is completely free just go with comfortable clothes and willing to walk.
After this we went to the "explora park" an iterative park/museum focused on science and technology. at the entrance of the park you buy the bracelet that allows you to enter all the rooms and the aquarium, in addition to this it has a planetarium its rooms have different themes such as music, physics, cinema, time among others, They also have an area for younger children to have fun, in my opinion is an experience that can not miss on your trip to Medellin each room has expert guides who give information on the theme of the exhibition or on the animal species you are seeing, in this park you have fun while you learn.
The next day was black Friday so we went to the most important malls in the city to shop, we visited the Santa Fe mall which is located in Poblado, one of the most exclusive areas of the city, it is one of the largest malls in Medellin. "Poblado", one of the most exclusive areas of the city, is one of the biggest malls in Medellin, this brings together large franchises of both clothing and gastronomy then we went to another major shopping center in the city called Viva Envigado, I must emphasize that the people who work in the malls are very friendly and take care of your experience as a consumer to be the best.
On Saturday we did one of the INDISPENSABLE activities if you go to Medellin and is the tour of the commune 13 "San Javier" is a place full of color, art, dance and bathed in all the urban style very characteristic of Medellin, despite the various rumors and warnings that made us we could arrive at the site by subway, when you arrive you can make the decision to pay the guided tour or not, we did not pay it and it is a decision that I still regret because the guide informs you about the regulations that you must follow in the commune, there you can see different artistic exhibitions ranging from photography to graffiti, There you will also find different dance groups of urban genre such as break dance, hip-hop, reggaeton among others, there are many mini bars where they sell different types of alcohol but the most sold is beer, also has many stalls to buy souvenirs and typical Latin American street food, in the commune you can appreciate the great project of change and social inclusion since this was associated with violence and precarious conditions little by little the Colombian government has turned what was once one of the red areas of the city in a place full of tourists in my opinion the commune 13 "San Javier" is a must on your trip to Medellin.
This same day later we went to "Lleras Park" in Poblado where we went to Provenza which is one of the best nightlife areas of the city we went to a club called "Vintrash" where we were able to meet people from different parts of the world specifically Europe.
Then on our last day in the city we made a tour to the municipality of Guatape where you will find "La Pierda del Peñol" and the artificial reservoir where different water sports are performed except swimming, the last one is prohibited because the bottom of the reservoir is clayey and represents a danger to the swimmer, this experience can be different according to your budget, there are "glampings" luxurious private boats that you can rent and spend a few days in the town or you can also pay a day tour from the city to the town this includes lunch, the entrance to the rock and a boat ride on the reservoir and the tour guide who tells you the history of the town, the reservoir and the rock, the town of guatape is magical colorful with houses decorated with the famous sockets these usually describe the family history of the owners of the house, in the boat ride you can see different luxury houses that belong to soccer players and celebrities, also you will find the abandoned farm of Pablo Escobar that has a very interesting history, something not to be missed are the famous lulo ice cream with mango.
That day we returned to the city and arrived around 9 pm exhausted, sad because the next day we would have the flight back to Cúcuta to return home, so we decided to go out one last time to "Parque Lleras", but things got out of control, we met some guys both were from Monterey Mexico and what started as a quiet outing to drink some beers, became the loss of the flight that would bring us to home, and what would be a 1 hour flight turned into an 18 hour bus ride with a hangover (we had to go back by bus because we had no money to buy another plane ticket) the most important lesson I learned from this trip and I hope it will help you if you are young and are traveling for the first time alone with friends is to never drink the day before going to the airport, a lesson I learned the hard way, but it's certainly a great anecdote.
i hope to travel this year to medellin, its a beatiful city
I hope you enjoy the story about my trip to medellin 💛💙❤️
