Hello my friends, on this occasion I want to share with you my visit to the Servando Cabrera Moreno Museum, which is located in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana. Servando Cabrera was a plastic artist well known throughout the world for his beautiful paintings of unique style.
Here I also liked to appreciate the building that is considered a jewel of Cuban architecture, for its attractive construction and its artistic values.
This house was built in 1917 and was acquired in 1922 by an Italian couple, José Pennino and Emmanuela. Pennino was a marble merchant who imported from Italy, in Cuba there are many works of Carrara marble due to its importation. She was called Lita, which is why Villa Lita is engraved on its façade. Since 2007 it has gone from being a domestic residence to a museum to exhibit and preserve the work of the Cuban painter Servando Cabrera Moreno.
From the facade we are impressed by the powerful architecture and the presence of the marble lions at the entrance is a sign of power very typical of the time.
I like to observe the design and architecture of the places I visit, this house has beautiful work on the ceiling and walls, I had not seen anything like it, also the windows and doors are very beautiful.
The staircase is completely made of marble with metal grilles, a characteristic style of the colonial period. In the upper part there is a large stained glass window that lets sunlight through and allows us to delight in its very beautiful colorful design. There is a work by Servando in the middle step of the staircase and another work on the ground floor, illuminated by a lamp supported by a beautiful metal sculpture.
On the occasion of the celebration of the Havana Biennial from November/2024 to February/2025, contemporary works are being exhibited together with the works of Servando Cabrera from the museum.
It was also very emotional to visit the library that has important copies that were owned by Servando, these literary works have a higher value because they were acquired and preserved by the artist, which show us that his literary tastes were diverse that allowed him to acquire a vast culture.
What I liked most about the architectural part is the enclosed terrace with beautifully colored stained glass windows depicting a vine. These stained glass windows were made by the Italian artist Gino Cioli and constitute a unique work within the architecture of Vedado.
In addition, it also has a very beautiful sculpture. This terrace connects with the outdoor gardens of the house, it is ideal for having a delicious coffee and chatting with friends wrapped in a cozy atmosphere of beautiful colors.
In the outdoor area of the house are the gardens, one of which is the Garden of Sculptures, which at the beginning of the inauguration of the museum had a great variety of sculptures.
The museum's guide specialist tells me that when they finish doing the restoration, new sculptures will be incorporated into the spaces that are empty because that is one of the attractions of the museum since these sculptures can be seen from the street.
I was very interested in marble sculpture, I am a lover of this type of sculpture, she explained to me that it is entitled Recumbent torso and is a reproduction of the homonymous work by the Cuban sculptor Rita Longa.
The mural behind this sculpture is called Amistad, it is made of ceramics by the artist Marta Arjona. We also see a work by the Cuban sculptor José Villa Soberón made of metal and entitled Obelisk.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know this museum with its architectural and artistic beauties.
See you soon!
VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL
MUSEO Servando Cabrera Moreno
