Berastagi is a sub-district in Karo district, North Sumatra province. Berastagi City is the second largest city after Kaban Jahe City. If in previous posts we told about tours around the Berastagi area, now, we will tell you about the face of Berastagi City.
Berastagi is about 70 KM from the city of Medan and this area is flanked by two active volcanoes at once, namely Mount Sinabung and Mount Sibanyak. Because the location of the city of Berastagi is at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, this makes the city of Brastagi one of the coldest cities in INDONESIA, especially in the province North Sumatra.
The economic activities of the population of Berastagi are mostly farmers whose agricultural products have been distributed throughout North Sumatra and even to foreign countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. Vegetables and fruits here grow very fertile so that many types of vegetables and fruits that cannot be grown elsewhere in North Sumatra, especially Medan, can grow well in the Berastagi area. Besides farming, people in Berastagi who have Karo and Batak ethnicities in general also have other jobs, namely trading and raising livestock.
When we walk to Berastagi City, besides being able to enjoy the cool air there, don't miss to visit the Berastagi Fruit market. It is a mainstay place for Berastagi City.
Here we can find fresh fruits that cannot grow well in the hot climate of Medan and many kinds of vegetables. Such as strawberry fruit, marqisa, Dutch eggplant, persimmon fruit, and other types of berries. In addition to fruits and vegetables, at Berastagi Fruit Market, we can also find many sellers of clothes, handicraft knick-knacks typical of the Karo tribe and flower sellers who are beautiful and of course cannot be found in other areas.
When we go to Berastagi City, there is also nothing wrong if we buy Edelweiss flowers or better known as Immortal Flowers, because these flowers never wither or fall. This Edelweiss flower has rarely been encountered and is already rare so the price is already expensive. For one small stalk of Edelweiss we have to spend Rp. 15,000 to Rp. 35,000. This flower is a rare plant because it can only grow around the peaks of mountains in Indonesia, one of which is Mount Sibanyak which is in the Karo Regency area.
In addition to what has been mentioned above, we can also get around the city of Berastagi with family or loved ones in different ways, namely by riding a Sado (a three-wheeled vehicle that is pulled by the power of a horse) or we can ride a horse. there are many Sado Options and Various Horse Options there. So we are free to make choices. The rate to be able to get around the city using Sado or this horse is around Rp. 35,000 to Rp. 60,000, depending on how we negotiate with the owners of the Horse.
When traveling around Berastagi City using Sado, or even walking, there's nothing wrong with buying warm snacks such as boiled peanuts to accompany your trip and don't forget to keep mineral water with you so you don't get dehydrated.
