This weekend I went up the mountains to Big Bear Lake one more time. Big Bear is the most convenient ski resort for me to go, it's not the best in terms of snow quality, but it is the closest one for me. Since Southern California is much dryer then the north, the amount of snow this resort gets is much less then the resorts up north. Especially this year that SoCal got much less precipitation then average. During the entire season it only got one snow storm, and it was about a month ago. Last week it got really hot and it already lost a lot of the snow it got on that storm. We still had a lot of fun, as we love snowboarding in any condition.
I've posted before about Big Bear Lake, but we usually go snowboarding at Snow Summit Ski Resort. Big Bear has two mountains, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, they are not connected, so you have to choose where to go. We usually went to Snow Summit as Bear Mountain almost doesn't have easy runs. My son is/was still a beginner, and it was easier for him to go to Snow Summit, but now he is riding a lot better and wanted to try Bear Mountain.

As you can see in the map above, the runs are marked with different colors and symbols to represent the level of difficulty of each one. Green (circles) are the easy ones, blue (squares) are medium difficulty, black (diamonds) are the difficult ones, and there are also the double diamonds that are the most difficult ones. We usually pick the runs we want to do, and then we follow the signs for the runs at the slope.
And if you never been to a ski resort before, I will try now to give you a little bit of the experience to be in a ski lift, or chair lift. I tried to picture everything from the line to get on the chair at the bottom, riding up the chair, and then getting off the chair at the top.
If you pay attention to the pictures, these chair lifts go right above the ski/snowboard park, where the resort sets up a lot of obstacles, like tables and rails, also many jumps of all sizes. There are small/easy jumps and there are also some huge jumps for those with more experience. It's fun just to watch the park, you will see a lot of impressive tricks, and you will also see some big wipe outs.

Now that you went up the chair lift with me, let's check out some pictures of the top of the mountain. I took them at different times of the day, and you can see the clouds that came in at the end of the day. There are a couple of pictures of us going down the hill with my son as the main actor, and then our stop for lunch. The food at the mountain is very expensive, and it's not the best. I got to say that this season their food got a lot better then the seasons before, kudos for them.

We stayed the night there, and I rented an airbnb right on the village. The village are a couple of streets that has dozens of restaurants and a lot of shops. It gets really busy at night, and the best part of staying there was being able to just walk to the restaurants and not worry about finding parking. So to finish up this trip, here are a couple of pictures of the village right in front of where we were staying.

Passamos a noite lá, e aluguei um Airbnb bem no Village. O Village é formado por duas ruas com dezenas de restaurantes e muitas lojas. O local fica muito movimentado à noite, e a melhor parte de ficar lá foi poder caminhar até os restaurantes e não se preocupar em encontrar estacionamento.
